YOUNGSTOWN — Karen Clark-Green says her play, “Color of Love,” is about interracial marriage but the problems and themes it deals with apply to all relationships.

The Youngstown native and playwright will present “Color of Love,” a two-person musical drama, at 7 p.m. Friday at the Masonic Temple, 233 Wick Ave.

The production will be filmed and submitted for inclusion in the biannual National Black Theater Festival, which will be Aug. 3-9, 2009, in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The festival committee is familiar with Clark-Green’s work, and requested that she submit “Color of Love.”

The drama, which stars Clark-Green and Youngstown actor D.C. Colvin, explores the challenges that accompany interracial marriage.

It tells the story through the eyes of Ben Thomas (Colvin) and Faith Favre (Clark-Green), a young black couple who divorced after three years of marriage, with each remarrying a white spouse. Twenty-three years pass with the couple never dealing with the pain and circumstances of their divorce, until one day they meet in a park.

Clark-Green, who splits her time between Youngstown and Los Angeles, wrote the songs for the play. Mark Johnson of Youngstown will provide the musical accompaniment.

Because Friday’s performance is being shot to be made into a DVD, audience members must be seated by 6:45 p.m.

Representatives of the Black Theater Festival will attend the performance.

Tickets are $15 for general admission; $25 for patron (includes special seating); and $50 for patron seating with admission to a private reception. For more information, go to archangelclark-green.zoomshare.com or call (330) 782-5457.
