The Rumble in Trumbull, an improvisational comedy competition, will pit troupes from three regional branches of Kent State University against one another. The comedy showdown will begin at 7 p.m. at the Trumbull Campus theater, located at 4314 Mahoning Ave., N.W., in Champion. Troupes from the Portage and Stark campuses will also compete. It’s free to the public.

Mill Creek MetroParks annual Kite Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the MetroParks Farm on Route 46, across from the Canfield Fairgrounds. Games, contests and open flying — bring your own kite — are part of the fun. There will also be stunt kite flying shows, and demonstrations by the Ohio Society for the Elevation of Kites (cute name), and Fly Pittsburgh.

Create your own project at Lynn Cardwell’s pottery studio or Marcie Applegate’s jewelry studio in the Ward Bakery Building, 1024 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown (across from the U-Haul building). Open house hours are noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can stop in to see the studios and create a hand-built clay project or silver clay jewelry project to make a pendant or pair of earrings. Each project is $10. No reservations necessary.
