WELLSVILLE — Authorities are asking the public for any information about the shooting death of a man about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Police Chief Joe Scarabino said that Eric Dillard, 30, of 906 Commerce St., was charged with murder about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Dillard was formally charged after he had been taken to the Columbiana County Jail.

He is accused of killing Jamie A. Farley, 35, who resided in the Salineville area, according to the chief.

Farley got out of his car on Commerce Street and was shot as he approached the front of the vehicle, the chief said.

John Gamble, an assistant county prosecutor, said the two men were acquainted.

Gamble said there were other people in Farley’s car.

Farley was shot with a .40-caliber pistol. He died after being taken to East Liverpool City Hospital.

Scarabino said he couldn’t say more about the shooting to safeguard the ongoing investigation.

The chief asked that anyone with information call the police department at (330) 532-1522.

Gamble said a county grand jury will review the evidence in the investigation.
