State Route 9 in Columbiana County to close next week

SALEM — The Ohio Department of Transportation said state Route 9 will be closed to traffic next Tuesday to replace a culvert just north of New Garden. Maintenance crews will close the roadway to traffic around 8 a.m. and reopen it by 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Traffic will be detoured at the intersection of state Routes 9 and 172 in New Garden. Drivers can go east on state Route 172 to U.S. Route 30, then east on U.S. 30 to state Route 45, then north to state Route 9, or the reverse. ODOT did not state the cost of the project.

ODOT also will begin work next Monday to resurface more than three miles of state Route 7. All four lanes of state Route 7 will be resurfaced from just north of the Jefferson County line to just north of the state Route 45 exit in Wellsville. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction.

The contractor for the $3.3 million project is the Shelly Co. in Thornville, Ohio. The completion date is Aug. 31.
