Scouts plan training course, event

CANFIELD — The annual Henry Sforza Memorial Scoutmaster’s Junior Leader Training Course and Show ‘n’ Do will be Friday and Saturday at Camp Stambaugh, 3712 Leffingwell Road.

Hosted by a group of local Scout leaders, this year’s training course will be composed of a maximum of 64 Scouts and 34 leaders (one Scoutmaster, four assistant Scoutmasters, a senior patrol leader, two assistant senior patrol leaders, eight patrol guides, eight patrol advisers, and 10 committee members.)

The Scouts and leaders will come from all of the Boy Scout Troops in the Whispering Pines District (covering Mahoning County and Hubbard) of the Greater Western Reserve Boy Scout Council.

This Junior Leader training gives the opportunity for Scouts who have been elected leaders in their troop to gain valuable experience in a variety of settings that encourages them to work and learn together. They are shown how to train new Scouts in scouting skills, and how to manage a patrol on campouts.

Saturday afternoon, a Show ‘n’ Do will give all Scouts participating the opportunity to experience a new skill by learning and practicing it. At the end of the course, each Scout completing the requirements will receive a certificate and patch for their uniforms.
