Teacher layoffs coming in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — The city school board is expected to cut 76 teachers from next year’s payroll. The board is meeting at 6:30 p.m. today to take action on the cutbacks which are expected to save the district $4.8 million in salary and fringe benefit costs. The teacher cuts come in the wake of 14 administrative cuts last month and will be followed by reductions in custodial, clerical and other staff in May. Other reductions for next year are expected to reach $7.5 million. Read the details in Wednesday’s paper.
