MLB ROUNDUP \ Monday’s other games

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Red Sox 8, Rangers 3

BOSTON — Clay Buchholz pitched six shutout innings and David Ortiz drove in three runs with a pair of doubles as Boston completed a four-game sweep. Julio Lugo went 4-for-4 with a walk and an RBI as the Red Sox scored at least five runs for the ninth straight game. Boston has won nine of 10 overall. The annual game on Patriots Day — a holiday commemorating Paul Revere’s ride and the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775 — began at 11:06 a.m. It takes place on the same day as the Boston Marathon, and runners passed by Fenway Park starting in the third inning and kept going for hours. Texas starter Kason Gabbard left the game with a stiff back after throwing two shutout innings. Dustin Nippert (1-2) came in and escaped a first-and-third jam in the third, then gave up five runs in the fourth. Buchholz (1-1) allowed five hits and two walks with six strikeouts, one in each of his innings. Texas is 2-9 in its last 11.

Tigers 5, Blue Jays 1

TORONTO — Rookie Armando Galarraga won his second straight start and Edgar Renteria homered as Detroit beat Toronto. Ivan Rodriguez had four hits and Renteria scored twice for the Tigers. Galarraga (2-0) has won back-to-back starts since being called up from Triple-A Toledo last week to replace Dontrelle Willis, sidelined by a hyperextended knee. The 26-year-old Galarraga blanked the Blue Jays on three singles for 51‚Ñ3 innings. He struck out four and walked four. Galarraga lowered his ERA to 1.50. He has not allowed a hit to a right-hander in 21 at-bats since joining the Tigers.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Cubs 7, Mets 1

CHICAGO — Carlos Zambrano pitched seven strong innings and Aramis Ramirez and Felix Pie homered as Chicago won for the 12th time in 15 games. Zambrano (3-1) allowed five hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts. Chicago’s ace was backed by four double plays, including one in the sixth started by shortstop Ronny Cedeno that doused a big inning for the Mets and was a key play. Ramirez, who raised his average Sunday from .234 to .275 with four hits, homered to left-center after Derrek Lee led off the fourth with a single off John Maine (1-2).

Braves 7, Nationals 3

ATLANTA — Tim Hudson pitched six scoreless innings before tiring and drove in two runs as Atlanta won its fifth straight. The Braves have allowed only six runs during their winning streak, which pushed them above .500 for the first time this season at 10-9.

Dodgers 9, Reds 3

CINCINNATI — Nomar Garciaparra hit his first home run since Sept. 14 and drove in three runs and Brad Penny stayed perfect at Great American Ball Park as Los Angeles beat Cincinnati. Rafael Furcal also homered, and James Loney added three RBI for the Dodgers, who equalled their season high with 15 hits.
