McDONALD — Open enrollment in the McDonald school district ends May 3, and the district has 30 applications remaining.

Closing for MS walk

YOUNGSTOWN —These drives in Mill Creek Park will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday for the Multiple Sclerosis Services Agency Walk-A-Thon: Bears Den Drive, Cross Drive, New Cross Drive and West Park Drive.

Child rape charges

YOUNGSTOWN — Curtis O. Daye, 60, of West Marion Avenue, will be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. June 19 after pleading guilty Monday to raping a 10-year-old in 2007 and a child over age 13 in 2000.

The Mahoning County prosecutor’s office is recommending that Daye get six years in prison.

Daye was indicted in February on two counts of rape that carried possible life sentences and two counts of gross sexual imposition — all related to offenses against the younger child.

Pa. motorcyclist injured

NEW CASTLE — A motorcyclist was injured after he struck a deer, Pennsylvania State Police in New Castle reported.

Robert L. Webb Jr., 32, of Slippery Rock, was southbound on Cameron Road in Hickory Township at 2:50 p.m. Sunday when the deer jumped into his path from a hill, police said.

The motorcycle slid with the deer for 125 feet, police said.

Webb was not wearing a helmet and suffered a head injury, police said. He was flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center. The hospital said he is no longer there but had no other information.

Sharpsville bar robbed

SHARON — An employee collecting a cover charge at a bar in the 800 block of Sharpsville Avenue was robbed at gunpoint, police reported.

The robbery happened at the 804 Restaurant and Tavern on Sharpsville Avenue before 1 a.m. Sunday, police report.

A man approached the employee and demanded the money. He fled with less than $50, said chief Michael Menster. No one was injured. Police are investigating.
