Burglarized house burns

YOUNGSTOWN — Fire damaged a vacant house at 3006 Jean St. late Sunday that already had its plumbing stripped, the fire department said.

Firefighters sent to the burning structure on the South Side at 10:55 p.m. found the front door locked and the back door open with fire burning from the basement through the kitchen floor. Damage was set at $5,000, and the cause is under investigation.

North Side homicide

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are investigating a late-night shooting Monday on the city’s North Side that took the life of one man. Police were called to 1034 Norwood Ave. at 9:46 p.m. in reference to a shooting. The man later died of his injuries, but police did not release his name or age. The death was being considered a homicide, police said.

Misuse of 911 charged

WARREN — A man who police say kept them busy searching for his missing 2-year-old son has been charged with misuse of 911.

Joseph I. Aston, 30, of Perkinswood Avenue S.E., pleaded innocent Monday in municipal court and a pretrial was scheduled for May 29. He is free on a $1,500 bond. Police reported that Aston called 911 Saturday afternoon to report his son missing. Six police officers searched the area for an hour but couldn’t find the boy. When his wife returned home with her son, Aston reportedly told police he knew his son was with her. According to the report, Aston was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Turkey breaks into bank

WARREN — Police were called about 9:15 a.m. Sunday because a window had been broken at the Huntington Bank branch on Main Street. When they arrived, they found it was a wild turkey that had broken the glass and settled inside the bank. Police took the excess glass out of the window frame and shooed the bird away.

M.B.A. sessions

YOUNGSTOWN — The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University has scheduled two master of business administration information sessions. The first is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the Cafaro Suite in Williamson Hall, and the second is set for 6:15 p.m. April 30 at the same location. The flexible MBA program enables students to attend classes either full- or part-time. Classes are offered one night a week and on Saturdays.
