Bettura blanks Howland


Warren JFK’s Morgan Piacquadio fired a no-hitter against Campbell.

HOWLAND — Tricia Bettura pitched a two-hit shutout and also had two hits including a double to lead the Canfield High softball team past Howland, 6-0.

Melissa West and Bryanne Halfhill also had two hits for the Cardinals (7-2, 5-0 Metro Athletic Conference).

Struthers 8, Salem 4

STRUTHERS — Sam Ditman hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning that gave Struthers the win.

Ditman also singled for two of the Wildcats four hits. Ellen Becker pitched the win for Struthers (14-3). Barb Seabat had two hits and Lisa Minamyer hit a three-run homer for Salem.

Poland 9, Niles 1

POLAND — Allyson Kennedy homered, doubled, singled and drove in three, while Jordan Palumbo homered, doubled, singled and had two RBIs to lead Poland (9-2, 3-1). The Bulldogs hit three homers in the third inning.

Brooke Joseph doubled for Niles (5-9, 2-4).

Warren JFK 10, Campbell 0

WARREN — Morgan Piacquadio (3-0) tossed a no-hitter, struck out eight and walked none during the five-inning game. A fielding error prevented a perfect game.

Piacquadio and Rachel Ratcliffe had three hits. One of Ratcliffe’s was a double. Alex Rathburn had two doubles and six RBIs while Keikei Harris and Rachel Pico each had two hits for the Eagles (10-1).

Springfield 11, East Palestine 1

EAST PALESTINE — Winning pitcher Ashley Davis struck out eight batters and walked one for the Tigers (5-7, 3-2 Inter Tri-County League Tier One).

Davis’ three hits included a triple and double. She scored twice and drove in three runs. She struck out eight batters and walked one. Rebecca Evan hit a two-run homer and scored three times for the Tigers.

Kelsey Larson’s three hits drove in a run. Andrea Lyons had two hits.

For the Bulldogs (2-10, 1-8), Harley Huston had two hits.

United 5, South Range 3

NORTH LIMA — Jesse Vincent and Hillary Hoppel hit solo homers in the top of the ninth to lead United.

Hoppel had three hits for the Eagles (15-2, 6-1 (ITCL1) while Kaitlin Higgins and Karissa Heuer each added two.

Tabitha Stanton had three hits for South Range (5-5, 4-3).

McDonald 12, Southern 0

SALINEVILLE — Kaitlin Rutushin struck out 14 and walked one, tossing a one-hit shutout over five innings to lead McDonald. Rutushin also had two hits, as did Cassie Garland (who added four RBIs), Ashley Alexander and Kirsten Tayala for the Blue Devils (12-0, 9-0 ITCL2).

Western Reserve 2, Leetonia 0

LEETONIA — Elizabeth Srock (3-2) tossed a two-hitter, striking out 16 batters and walking four for the Blue Devils (5-6, 6-2 ITCL2).

Heather Monoski homered while Ellie Sanders and Amanda Majirsky had two hits each.

For the Bears, Andie McCluskey and Sarah Weikart singled.

Lowellville 5, Wellsville 4

LOWELLVILLE — Winning pitcher Cori Pavlicko struck out 15 batters and walked two in the 11-inning game. She also doubled.

Neena Guerrieri’s three hits drove in two runs for the Rockets. Jill Cholensky and Kayla Maszczak both had two hits including doubles.

Hubbard 11, Brookfield 0

HUBBARD — Kara Egelsky (6-1) tossed a one-hitter, striking out 15 batters and walking three. She also contributed two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Eagles (9-4, 6-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference).

Ashley Bone’s two hits included a double. She scored twice and brought home another run. Meagan Schultz tripled and singled, scoring twice and driving in two runs.

For the Warriors (4-8, 0-8), Stephanie Van Meter singled in the first inning and Corin Miller (3-8) struck out seven batters and walked none.

Lakeview 10, LaBrae 4

LEAVITTSBURG — Jessica Downs had three hits, including a homer, and four RBIs to lead Lakeview, which scored all its runs in the first three innings.

Joanna Novotny added three hits and two RBIs and Brigitte Morvay had two hits for the Bulldogs (8-2, 7-2 TAC).

Angelica Pugh went 3-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs for LaBrae (5-7, 2-6).

Newton Falls 2, Liberty 1

LIBERTY — Winning pitcher Blaine Chatman (4-3) had two hits including a double. She struck out four batters and walked none.

Ashley Walker also had two hits for the Tigers (5-7, 5-3 TAC).

Melissa Dykes’ two hits included a double and she scored Liberty’s run on Kacey Kurtz’s single. Alison House struck out five batters and walked none for the Leopards (3-4, 3-3).

Pymatuning Valley 10, Mathews 9

VIENNA — Pymatuning Valley scored in the top of the 10th inning and then held off Mathews.

Winning pitcher Jenn Pennant led the Lakers with three hits including two doubles while her sister Audrey added a home run.

Jenna Whitfield had three hits for Mathews including a triple. Julie Wise added a home run and a single.
