Blue Jays 3, Tigers 2

TORONTO — Alex Rios homered and Dustin McGowan won for the first time this season as Toronto snapped a six-game home losing streak. McGowan (1-1) pitched a season-high seven innings, allowing two runs and seven hits. The 26-year-old right-hander improved to 9-3 in his past 14 starts at Rogers Centre. Scott Downs worked the eighth and B.J. Ryan wrapped it up in the ninth for his second save, striking out Ryan Raburn looking to leave runners at first and third. The Blue Jays benched designated hitter Frank Thomas, who is hitless in 13 at-bats and 4-for-35 since homering in three straight games from April 5-8.

Athletics 6, Royals 5

OAKLAND, Calif. — Kurt Suzuki singled home Chris Denorfia with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and Oakland knocked around Kansas City’s bullpen for a second straight day. Daric Barton went 3-for-5 with a single, double and triple to make up for a critical fielding error in the second inning while five other players had two hits apiece for the Athletics, who set a season high with 16 hits. Joey Devine (2-0) pitched two shutout innings of relief to earn the win while Huston Street recorded the final four outs for his fifth save in six chances. Jose Guillen and Miguel Olivo both homered for struggling Kansas City, which managed only three hits over the final seven innings. The Royals have lost three straight and four of five after opening the season 8-5, their best start since 2003. Joel Peralta (0-1) took the loss for the Royals after giving up two runs in one-third of an inning.

Red Sox 5, Rangers 3

BOSTON — Manny Ramirez hit a two-run homer after slumping slugging partner David Ortiz tied it with an RBI single in the eighth inning, lifting Boston over Texas. With the crowd still buzzing after the Bruins’ 5-4 win over Montreal in the Game 6 of the Stanley Cup playoffs was posted on the scoreboards, Dustin Pedroia doubled off the Green Monster against Joaquin Benoit (1-1) with one out in the eighth. Ortiz followed with a hard single that bounced off the glove of diving second baseman Ian Kinsler and into short right field, scoring Pedroia. Ramirez then hit an 0-1 pitch over the Monster seats for his sixth of the season.

Orioles 6, Yankees 0

BALTIMORE — Brian Burres and Jim Johnson combined on a six-hitter as Baltimore beat New York. Burres gave up five hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 52‚Ñ3 innings for the Orioles, and Johnson allowed the Yankees just one hit the rest of the way to pick up the first save of his career. Ramon Hernandez and Aubrey Huff each drove in two runs and Kevin Millar homered for the Orioles. Brandon Fahey added two hits.

Rays 5, White Sox 0

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Andy Sonnanstine threw a three-hitter for his first career complete game as Tampa Bay beat Chicago. The White Sox got just three singles, including a bunt hit, and didn’t get a runner past second base. After two of the hits, Sonnanstine later got an inning-ending double play grounder.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Mets 4, Phillies 2

PHILADELPHIA — Oliver Perez pitched 52‚Ñ3 scoreless innings, Jose Reyes and David Wright had a two-run double for the Mets. Perez (2-0) allowed four hits, struck out seven and overcame five walks. Aaron Heilman escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and Billy Wagner finished for his fourth save. Chase Utley hit a solo homer for the Phillies. Jamie Moyer (1-1) gave up two runs and seven hits in six innings.

Braves 4, Dodgers 1

ATLANTA — Just hours after coming back from the minors, Chuck James allowed one run in five innings and the Atlanta bullpen shut down the Dodgers the rest of the way, leading the Braves to their third straight victory. Mark Teixeira’s two-run single highlighted a four-run fifth that accounted for all the Atlanta scoring and handed James (1-1) the win. Andruw Jones, the longtime Braves center fielder now playing for the Dodgers, showed signs of breaking out of his slump. He hit a towering drive deep into the left-field seats in the second, his first homer for Los Angeles.

Brewers 5, Reds 3, 10 innings

CINCINNATI — Bill Hall’s two-run double in the 10th inning kept Milwaukee perfect in extra innings this season. Hall’s two-run homer led to a 5-2 win in the series opener. A day later, he sent a full-count pitch from David Weathers (0-2) into the gap in right-center to break a 3-all tie and send the Reds to their seventh loss in eight games. Guillermo Mota (1-0) pitched two perfect innings, and Eric Gagne finished off a combined four-hitter for his second save in the series.

Giants 3, Cardinals 0

ST. LOUIS — San Francisco’s Tim Lincecum pitched seven sharp innings and beat St. Louis for the second time in a week. Aaron Rowand hit a solo home run and an RBI single as the Giants ended a three-game losing streak. Lincecum (3-0) gave up six hits and struck out five in his 10th major league victory — three of those wins have come against St. Louis. Last Sunday, he struck out 11 in six innings to beat the Cardinals.

Rockies 3, Astros 2

HOUSTON — Brad Hawpe singled in the go-ahead run in the fifth, Aaron Cook pitched seven strong innings and Colorado beat Houston. The Rockies have won four straight and eight of 11. They climbed over the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Marlins 6, Nationals 5

MIAMI — Wes Helms singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Florida beat Washington. Helms’ one-out grounder up the middle off reliever Saul Rivera scored Dan Uggla from second and the Marlins snapped a two-game skid.
