Listeners help WYSU to exceed $100K goal in spring fund-raiser

YOUNGSTOWN – Listener supported WYSU 88.5 FM, Youngstown State University’s public radio service, raised $102,058 during its recently completed spring pledge drive. A total of 987 listeners contributed to the station during the event, including 113 new members.

“We had a lot of help. The concern for our continued success expressed by so much of the community inspires us all,” said Gary Sexton, station director.

“We would like to thank the generous listeners, volunteers and sponsors for yet again rising to the occasion and generously supporting WYSU-FM and public radio in the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys,” said Ed Goist, WYSU’s development officer.

The week-long pledge drive included many giveaways and incentives and challenges, including daily drawings for HD Radios Æ. Listener Bea Jones of Berlin Center won the grand prize, a pair of tickets on the WYSU-sponsored Go Ahead Tours 13-day “Fables of Ancient Greece” tour.

Corporate support for the drive was provided by Go Ahead Tours, Internet Data Management Inc., Butler Wick Co. Inc. and The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, all of which provided partial matches during drive time pledge periods.
