Campbell to dedicate LL field

CAMPBELL— The Campbell Little League will hold its official field dedication to league founder Tony Dann May 10 from noon-2 p.m. at Roosevelt Park.

The field will be re-named from Campbell Little League Field to Tony Dann Field, and a plaque recognizing that honor will be mounted and displayed at the field.

Dann, now 101, founded the league and led the development of the field in 1951, the league’s first season, and also the field’s maintenance.

The first four teams in the league were Gordon Ford, Judin’s Market, Reed Builders and Campbell Sash.

Following the dedication ceremonies, a get-together will be held at the Campbell Community Center also in Roosevelt Park for Dann’s family, friends and former associates, managers, coaches, umpires and players, and also the public.

Lewis Jackson, Campbell city administrator who is the lead organizer of the field dedication, is hoping the public turns out to honor Dann.

“We are hoping that some of the oldtimers affiliated with the league, like managers, coaches and umpires, will attend [as well] as former players,” said Jackson.
