Ram tough: Ridge tops Reserve


Campbell improved to 7-2 with a win over Struthers.

BERLIN CENTER — Jason Ferguson bedeviled the Blue Devils on Friday.

Ferguson hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to give Mineral Ridge an 11-9 lead, then made an unassisted double play in the bottom of the inning to help the Rams (6-6) hold on for the two-run victory.

Western Reserve (8-6) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, but winning relief pitcher Kyle Borton (1-0) got a strikeout and a lineout to Ferguson, who stepped on second base for the game-ending forceout.

Ferguson also doubled, singled, scored twice and drove in five runs, while Joe Mulichak hit a double, three singles and scored four times, Evan Walton hit four singles and drove in two runs and Joe Miller hit three singles and drove in two runs. The Rams finished with 21 hits.

Eric Kennchan led the Blue Devils’ 16-hit attack with three singles.

McDonald 15, Jackson-Milton 0

NORTH JACKSON —The Blue Devils (9-2, 7-1) scored 11 runs in the first three innings in cruising to the Inter-Tri-County League Tier Two victory.

Bill Lowry hit a grand slam in the first inning to give McDonald a 4-0 lead.

Anthony Raschilla hit a pair of singles, scored three times and drove in two runs. Alex Baker hit three singles, scored twice and drove in a run.

Mike Gatta (2-0) scattered four hits with six strikeouts to pick up the win.

Tommy Smith had two hits for JM (0-8, 0-6).

East Palestine 2, United 0

EAST PALESTINE — The Bulldogs (8-1, 7-1) scored a run in the first inning and an insurance run in the fifth in the ITCL Tier One contest. Taylor Snyder (3-0) worked five innings, allowed only one hit and struck out two to pick up the win.

Nick Dicello hit a pair of singles to pace East Palestine.

T.J. Rosenberg hit a double for the Golden Eagles (7-4, 4-4).

Campbell 9, Struthers 7

CAMPBELL — Dan Sacui’s three hits included a solo homer and he scored twice for the Red Devils (7-2, 4-1 Metro Athletic Conference).

Leo Bonilla (1-0) picked up the win in relief. His two hits included a double. Also with two hits were Raul Pizarro and Juan Miranda.

For the Wildcats, Mike Vitucci hit two doubles and T.J. Schvromofsky doubled.

Niles 5, Howland 4

HOWLAND — Evan Bollinger had two hits, including a grand slam in the third inning, and Mike Kelly pitched a two-hitter to propel the Red Devils.

Josh Kostraba scored twice for the Tigers.

Girard 12, Lakeview 3

GIRARD — Anthony Guerrieri hit a solo homer to spark a nine-run sixth inning and finished with three hits and two RBIs for Girard in a Trumbull Athletic Conference contest.

Brett Cubellis and Larry Goist had two hits and two RBIs, Eric Archer had two hits and three RBIs and Marty Brinker had two hits for the Indians (8-5, 6-2).

Ryan Nisbett tripled, singled and drove in two, while Kevin Monti had three hits and Scott Palette had two hits for Lakeview.

Thursday Boardman 4, Canton Glenoak 2

CANTON — Winning pitcher Kevin McCulloh (2-0) tossed a four-hitter and hit a RBI double for the Spartans (8-2, 3-1 Federal League).

Chad Kobylanski had two hits and scored twice while Eric Walters had two hits and two RBIs.

Massillon Jackson 5, Fitch 0

AUSTINTOWN — Sean Paul had a single and two RBIs to lead Massilon Jackson (6-2, 4-0 FL).

Matt Anderson pitched an eight-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and three intentional walks for Jackson.

Nick Wiery had three singles for Fitch (4-5, 2-2 FL

Campbell 15, Columbiana 9

CAMPBELL —Dan Sacui was 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead Campbell (6-2), while Tom Hofus and Josh Gore each added two hits.

Josh Weikart doubled twice for Columbiana.
