Mooney remains unbeaten

MASSILLON — The Mooney High softball team rallied for for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to post a 7-6 victory over Columbus Pickerington Central Friday in the Tigertown Invitational softball tournament.
Trailing 6-4, Kristen Stahl, walked and moved to third on a bunt single by Cheryl Guyer. Katie Hughes singled home Stahl.
Christina Hrehor singled home Guyer and Meghan Williams singled home Hughes with the deciding run for the Cardinals (10-0).
Hughes also hit a double and had two RBIs. Guyer hit two singles and scored twice.
Pickerington Central, a 2007 Division I state semifinalist, fell to 10-3.
Mooney takes on Dover today at 2 p.m. and will meet Lake at 4 p.m.
Mentor Lake Catholic 3, Howland 1
MASSILLON — Melanie Cope (4-3) struck out eight and walked two over seven innings in a losing effort for Howland (6-5) in the Tigertown Invitational.
Rachel Bixler had two hits, including a double, and Amanda Delaquila had a double.
Ursuline 3, Mount Notre Dame 0
TOLEDO — Winning pitcher Casey Lower (8-1) struck out 10 batters and walked one.
The Irish (3-1) scored three runs in the fifth inning after Rebecca Hartz and Krista Byers singled. An error sent Hartz home. Anna Donko beat out a squeeze bunt to score Byers and scored on Casey Foley’s hit.
Today, Ursuline plays Toledo Notre Dame and Cleveland St. Joseph.
Johnson City (Ill.) 5, Canfield 1
ASHLAND — Tricia Bettura walked and scored the Cardinals’ (4-2) run after Melanie West’s sacrifice bunt and a throwing error.
Warren JFK 2, Hubbard 0
WARREN — Rachel Pico threw a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and one walk to lead JFK (7-1).
Rachael Ratcliffe added two hits and C.C. DeWees drove in the game’s only runs with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Gabby Flynn had six strikeouts and one walk, giving up five hits in the loss.
Struthers 11, Campbell 4
STRUTHERS — Halle Minchin-Skook doubled, tripled, scored twice and drove in four runs to lead Struthers (11-3, 4-1 Metro Athletic Conference) in a game that featured five homers.
Ellen Becker, Sam Ditman and Ashley Baron homered for the Wildcats, while Dominique Martino had two doubles and two runs and Baron added two hits and three RBIs.
Dana Mathews struck out 16 to get the win. Erica Melnik and Jamie Dolan homered for Campbell.
Boardman 5, South Range 2
BOARDMAN — Kelcie Ford hit a three-run homer in the first inning and a RBI single in the second.
Marra Cercone had two singles and the other RBI for the Spartans (6-2). Winning pitcher Shannon Morrow (3-0) had two hits. She struck out eight batters and walked none.
For the Raiders (5-4), Madison Yanek hit a sacrifice fly.
Lakeview 8, Cortland 1
CORTLAND — Winning pitcher Mackenzie Palette (3-0) struck out 16 batters and walked one.
Palette also had two hits to drive in three runs for the Bulldogs (6-2, 6-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
For Girard (2-9, 1-6), Chelsea Guerrieri had two hits and drove in the Indians’ run.
LaBrae 9, Berkshire 7
BURTON — The Vikings (4-5) scored the deciding two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Angelica Pugh hit a single, double, triple, scored three times, stole two bases and drove in a run for LaBrae.
Winning pitcher McKenzie Blaney hit a pair of singles. Carly McKinzie hit a double, two singles, scored once and drove in two runs for Berkshire (5-2).
Maplewood 9, Bristol 3
BRISTOLVILLE — Leah Dean and Chelsey Wolfe each had two hits and Amanda Peska won her sixth straight game to lead Maplewood (8-3).
Thursday Hubbard 2, Champion 0
HUBBARD — Kara Egelsky had an RBI double in the first inning and the senior pitcher fanned seven batters during a three-hitter.
A wild pitch accounted for the only other run for the Eagles (6-3, 5-1 TAC).
Losing pitcher Morgan White had 11 strikeouts for Champion, while Katie Saluga doubled for the Golden Flashes (6-2, 5-1 TAC).
