Clinton picks up superdelegate endorsement

AKRON (AP) — Democratic U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton of Ohio has given Hillary Rodham Clinton another key superdelegate endorsement.

The Clinton campaign said in a news release Friday that Sutton chose Clinton because she won the majority of votes in her Northeast Ohio congressional district in the March 4 primary against rival Barack Obama. Sutton, who lives near Akron, also cites Clinton’s commitment to improving economic conditions for working people.

Six Ohio superdelegates have endorsed Clinton, and four have endorsed Obama. Ohio has 21 superdelegates, who are not bound by voters’ choices when they select a candidate at the nominating convention.

Clinton won Ohio’s primary over Obama 54 percent to 44 percent.

Obama has a virtually insurmountable lead in pledged delegates from caucuses and primaries so far, but Clinton retains an edge in superdelegates.
