YWCA to hold leadership conference


LIBERTY — Youngstown Country Club, 1402 Country Club Drive, will be the setting from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 9 for the YWCA Women’s Leadership Conference.

Those attending the conference will be involved in discussions on how to:

Acquire a leadership role in an organization.

Enter the job market or change careers.

Bring balance to work and life.

Overcome gender bias.

Obtain financial stability.

Get motivated.

The keynote speaker will be Hollie Hinton, director in the Governor’s Office for Women’s Initiative and Outreach.

The conference agenda follows:

8:30 to 9 a.m. — Registration and continental breakfast.

9 a.m. — Welcome by Leah Brooks, development director.

9:05 a.m. —Invocation by Dr. Denise Narcise.

9:10 a.m. — “YWCA History and Future” by Constance Shaffer, YWCA executive director.

9:20 a.m. ­— Introduction by Susan Moorer, YWCA board president.

9:30 to 9:45 a.m. ­— Keynote address by Hollie Hinton.

9:45 to 10 a.m. — A break period providing an opportunity to visit resource tables, and a basket raffle.

10 to 10:45 a.m. ­— Breakout session with choice of two discussion groups: “Strategic Life Planning: Setting Goals and Long-range Plans,” by Traci Miller, The Growth Coach; or “Job Search and Preparation” by Patricia Smith and Melissa Davis of Trumbull County One Stop.

11 to 11:45 a.m. ­— “Financial Fitness: The Importance of Saving, Credit and Budgeting,” by Richard Cordray, Ohio Treasurer of State, and Michelle Parson, director of community education.

12 p.m. — Lunch and “Gender at Work,” table talk about what can be done locally, conducted by Dr. Anne McMahon of Youngstown State University.

12:45 to 1 p.m. ­— “Two Simple Traits: Turning Your Dreams Into Reality,” by Roy Thomas, RST Research.

1 to 1:15 p.m. — Drawings for prizes, evaluation and closing.

1:15 to 1:30 p.m.— Networking and visiting resource tables.

The entry fee for the entire day, which includes breakfast and lunch, is $20 per person; cost is $5 for full-time students with proper IDs. Scholarships will be available to those who qualify.
