ON THE SIDE...

CAMPAIGN KICKOFF: The Mahoning County Democratic Party is holding a campaign kickoff event at 11 a.m. Saturday at party headquarters, 103 E. Boardman St. in Youngstown. After a meeting, volunteers will visit neighborhoods campaigning for Democrats and asking people what they believe are the important issues in their community. Refreshments will be served at party headquarters about 2 p.m. All are invited.

Bills paid: A follow-up to the April 4 column about some local companies and a union being owed more than $20,000 by the Hillary Rodham Clinton presidential campaign: most, if not all, of that money has since been paid. Checks arrived about a week ago.

The story made national news and took on a life of its own. The Clinton campaign insisted at the time that it was following its policy of taking care of bills about a month after receiving invoices and the bills would be paid shortly.
