McDONALD |Council agenda

Village officials handled these matters at their meeting earlier this week:

Passed the first reading of an ordinance declaring McDonald a drug-free workplace, which should mean for the village a 15 percent reduction in workers’ compensation premiums for several years. All employees and elected officials will be included, and at least 10 percent of workers could be randomly tested each year, Mayor Glenn W. Holmes noted. The village hired Murphy’s Consulting Inc. of Warren to conduct training, which should get under way next month, he said.

Discussed a village cleanup day set to begin at 9 a.m. April 26. Everyone is welcome to participate in the event, which will include picking up litter, removing debris, painting park equipment and planting flowers, Holmes and Councilman Richard Harvey said.

Announced the acceptance of applications for part-time summer lifeguards and park attendees. Encouraged to apply are McDonald High School juniors and seniors who plan to continue their education. Applications should be sent before May 6 to Holmes at the administration building, 451 Ohio Ave., McDonald 44437.

Heard that an application has been resubmitted to receive roughly $250,000 of a federal Safe Routes to School grant. The grant, disbursed through the Ohio Department of Transportation, would go mainly toward building sidewalks to make it safer for pupils who walk to school along busy thoroughfares.

Heard that repairs are being made to easements and property damaged by equipment used to plow snow from roads during the winter.
