Late rally helps lift Girard
Abbey Bensing pitched a two-hitter to lead Lakeview past Newton Falls.
GIRARD — Chelsea Guerrieri’s bases-loaded triple in the sixth inning sparked a five-run rally as the Girard High softball team defeated Brookfield 7-6 in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game Thursday.
Missy Weitzman’s three hits brought home three runs while Ashley Isoldie had two hits for the Indians (2-9).
For the Warriors (2-6, 0-6), Stephanie Van Metter had four hits and two RBIs while Corin
Miller had three hits and three RBIs.
Erika Zigler, Stormy Miles and Maggie Marymion each had two hits.
Lakeview 3, Newton Falls 0
CORTLAND — Brigette Morvay slugged a solo homer and double.
Abbey Bensing (3-2) pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and three walks to lead Lakeview.
Mackenzie Palette added two singles for the Bulldogs (5-2, 5-2 TAC).
Blaine Chapman (2-3) took the mound loss with a seven-hitter for Newton Falls (4-4, 4-3).
McDonald 1, Columbiana 0
COLUMBIANA — Jessica Ferraro’s RBI single in the first inning led McDonald.
Ferraro’s hit drove in Andrea Robison as the Blue Devils remain undefeated (9-0).
Ferraro had two hits while Kaitlin Rutushin (9-0) pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks.
Paige Papania took the mound loss with a five-hitter for Columbiana (7-5).
Mooney 10, Western Reserve 2
BERLIN CENTER — Junior Kelcie Herberger (4-0) struck out five in her three-hitter for the Cardinals (9-0).
Meghan Williams had three hits and three RBIs while Cheryl Guyer had three hits and two RBIs for Mooney.
Jamie Clausen also had three hits while Kristen Stahl had two and two RBIs.
Elizabeth Srock (2-2) drove in two runs for the Blue Devils (4-5).

NORTH JACKSON — Courtney Little’s second inning single scored Taylor Dugan with the game’s only run for the Bluejays (4-5).

YOUNGSTOWN — Casey Lower pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks.
Mirando Carkido had three singles and three RBIs to pace Ursuline in a Steel Valley Conference game at Rocky Ridge.
Sara Marr added two singles and one RBI.
Anna Donko had a triple and single while Krista Byers had two singles for the Irish (7-1, 2-1 SVC).
Deshawn Jenkins had a single and was a defensive standout in center field for Chaney.

WARREN — Brooke Joseph had two hits and three RBIs. Aubrey Hale added two hits and a pair of RBIs for Niles.
Hale struck out three and allowed seven hits for the Red Dragons (5-5).
Walsh Jesuit 6, Poland 1
AKRON — A five-run sixth inning snapped a 1-1 tie to lift Walsh Jesuit (5-2) to victory.
Corey Rubright pitched a four-hitter and hit two triples at Firestone Stadium.
Four seniors led Poland’s hitting as Jenna Barnhart had a solo home run while Allie Patton, Jenna Medina and Allyson Kennedy singled for the Bulldogs (6-2).
Howland 8, Salem 1
SALEM — Abby Nicholas pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead the Tigers (6-4, 3-1 Metro Athletic Conference).
Carla Cope hit a pair of singles while Taylor Hill and Amanda Delaquila each doubled. Jordan Hisson hit a single for the Quakers.
Canton McKinley 3, Fitch 0
CANTON — Losing pitcher Emily Purnell (1-2) struck out eight batters and tossed a three-hitter.
Stephanie Berdis, Jena Baun and Carly Ortz had hits for the Falcons (6-3, 2-2 Federal League).
Maplewood 6, Southington 4
CORTLAND — Southington jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Maplewood went ahead 5-1 in the bottom of the third and held on for the victory. Amanda Peska pitch a complete game with seven strikeouts to pick up the win.
Tarra Snyder hit a pair of singles and Emily Paris a home run in the fifth inning to pace the Rockets.
Mathews 16, Bloomfield 3
VIENNA — Autumn Timko pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks for her first win of the season for Mathews (2-5, 2-2 Northeast Athletic Conference). She is 1-3.
Julie Wise and Kayla Gilmore each had two singles and two RBIs to lead Mathews, while Jenna Whitfield added a double and two RBIs.
Wednesday Canfield 15, Niles 0
CANFIELD — Melanie West hit two doubles and Melissa West one for the Cardinals (4-0, 4-0 MAC). Bianca Biondillo tripled in two runs.
Lauren Sulick (2-0) tossed a two-hitter, striking out 11.
For the Red Dragons (4-5 2-3), Larissa Cantola and Melyssa Spowart had singles.
Champion 8, LaBrae 6
LEAVITTSBURG — Nicole Weaver’s three hits included a double and drove in three runs for the Golden Flashes (7-3, 6-0 TAC).
Amanda Sain doubled while winning pitcher Morgan White (4-2) struck out 10 and walked two.
For the Vikings (3-5, 2-4), Amanda Witherow homered, doubled and singled to drive in three runs.
