Westminster theater to present ‘Quilters’

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Theatre Westminster will present “Quilters” from Thursday through Sunday in Beeghly Theater. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. For reservations, call the box office at (724) 946-7241). Tickets are $7 ($5 for seniors and students).

The musical celebrates the hearty pioneer women who turned a domestic craft into a native form of autobiographical art. Seven women tell their stories in song and scenes about the joys and hardships of settling the Old West. Cast members are Danielle Adams, Claudia Brown, Sonia Firster, Tracy Harmon, Jennifer Schindler, Alicia Tansey and Stephanie Witzorreck. Eileen Hendrickson, Westminster College visiting instructor of theater, is the director. Michael Slane, Westminster instructor of theater, is scenic designer and technical director.

Women’s barbershop chorus plans guest night

NILES — Sounds of Square County chorus is inviting women of all ages (11 and up) who might be interested in joining to come to one of two guest nights: April 30 and May 7. The chorus is an affiliate chapter of Harmony Inc., an international organization of women who sing barbershop harmony. It entertains at many functions.

Bob Grischow is the director, and Meredith Elliot, the assistant director.

McDonough to exhibit graduating students’ work

YOUNGSTOWN — The McDonough Museum of Art, on the campus of Youngstown State University, is presenting the Graduating BFA Show, an exhibition of work by students graduating in the spring semester from the department of art at YSU. An opening reception for the artists will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. May 2. The exhibit will remain on view in the galleries until May 17.

Traditionally, at the end of the fall and spring semesters, the McDonough honors graduating seniors with the exhibition. This current exhibit will feature the work of 12 students in various media, including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, graphic design and digital animation. The students are Johanna George, Jay Gordon, Justin Haines, Kristeen Martin, Chuck Perdulla, John Petruzzi, Kristina Smith, Scott Tammaro, Vincent James Valerio II, Amanda Vislosky, Dena M. Wood and Joseph Zappa.
