Underwood: fastest Chevy Centre sellout
Tickets for the show are already starting to show up on eBay.
YOUNGSTOWN — Carrie Underwood is a hot ticket in this market.
How hot? The country singer’s June 11 concert at Chevrolet Centre was the fastest sellout the downtown arena has seen since it opened in October 2005. A little more than 5,000 seats were available for the show.
Tickets — which ranged from $43.50 to $63.50 — went on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday and were gone by 2 p.m. Monday. But the span in which tickets were available was really just a little more than one day, because the Chevy Centre box office is closed Sundays, and a computer glitch halted all online sales Sunday, said Bridget Wolsonovich, director of marketing at Chevy Centre.
Wolsonovich couldn’t even say what concert or event previously held the record for quickest sellout, though she mentioned Sugarland’s December show and numerous Trans-Siberian Orchestra shows as quick sellers.
“No one has really even come close” to Underwood, said Wolsonovich. “Everything else took until about two to three weeks before the show before all tickets were gone.”
Eric Ryan, executive director of Chevy Centre, called the quick sellout “a perfect way to show the concert industry that the Valley will support these major events.”
Underwood fans who came up empty-handed will have one last chance to get a ticket. A very limited number of unused tickets reserved for promotional purposes will be put on sale at the box office the day of the show, said Wolsonovich. She expects the number will be fewer than 100.
Tickets are already starting to show up on eBay, she noted.
Underwood, the 2005 “American Idol” winner, has produced a series of pop-country hits, including “Some Hearts,” “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” and “Before He Cheats.”
