McDonald remains unbeaten in 2-0 win
MCDONALD — Jessica Ferraro’s two-run single in the fourth inning led the undefeated McDonald High softball team to a 2-0 victory Wednesday over Western Reserve.
Kaitlin Rutushin and Kirsten Tayaka also had hits for McDonald (8-0, 7-0 Inter Tri-County League Tier Two).
Rutushin tossed a three-hitter, striking out nine and walking none.
For Western Reserve (4-4, 4-2), Brittany Boyer, Kailyn Mowery and Heather Monoski hit singles.
Brookfield 6, Crestview 1
EAST FAIRFIELD — Corin Miller pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks to lead Brookfield, which scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Miller is 2-5.
Stephanie Van Meter slammed two triples and drove in two runs to lead Brookfield (2-5), while Rachel Yonkins added three singles andMaggie Marmion and Ericka Zigler two singles apiece.
United 15, Girard 4
GIRARD — Brooke McCartney went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Jenny McDevitt went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead United (11-1).
Kristin Helle and Megan McCale each had hits for Girard (1-9).
Mooney 29, East 6
YOUNGSTOWN — Margo Ucchino rapped two triples and a double and drove in four runs to pace Mooney (8-0, 2-0 Steel Valley Conference) at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
Amanda Cook contributed a double, single and three RBIs to aid Mooney, while Vickie Farris, Katie Hughes and Shayla DeCapita each had a triple.
Sixteen different players scored for Mooney.
East is 0-4 and 0-2.
Warren JFK 13, Chaney 3
WARREN — Junior Morgan Piacquadio struck out eight in pitching a six-inning five-hitter.
Freshman Rachel Radcliffe had four hits, while freshman Kiekie Harris and sophomores Kim Sylvester and Alex Raeburn had two hits apiece for JFK (6-1, 2-0 SVC).
One of Raeburn’s hits was a two-run home run in the first inning, with Sylvester on base.
Lisette Encarnacion had two hits for Chaney.
Ursuline 12, Harding 1
YOUNGSTOWN — Casey Lower and fourth-inning reliever Sara Marr combined to pitch a three-hitter for Ursuline (6-1, 1-1 SVC). Lower (6-1) had six strikeouts and no walks
Nikka Bonamase rapped a double and a single and drove in three runs while Mary Alexander had two singles and three RBIs and Anna Donko two singles.
Kamela Bender had two singles for Harding.
Fitch 12, Ravenna 1
AUSTINTOWN — Amanda Callahan picked up the mound win and also had two hits and three RBIs for Fitch (6-2). Stephanie Berdis and Emily Purnell each added two hits.
Campbell 11, Salem 10
SALEM — Campbell was able to score five runs in the top of the seventh inning with the help of Salem’s four errors and two walks, as the Red Devils rallied from a 9-6 deficit to an 11-9 lead.
Campbell only had three singles, two from Erica Melnik, while Salem (0-6, 0-4 MAC) sprayed 14 hits, including two doubles from McKenzie Clark.
Kate Malloy took the mound loss despite her three-hitter.
Struthers 11, Beaver Local 1
STRUTHERS — Ellen Becker pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts over five innings for the Wildcats (10-3, 3-1 MAC).
Dom Martino had a home run and three RBIs and scored three times, while Ashley Baron, Jackie Deem and Halle Minchin-Skook had two hits apiece for Struthers.
Champion 8, LaBrae 6
LEAVITTSBURG — Nicole Weaver had two doubles and an RBI, while Amanda Sain doubled for Champion (7-3, 6-0 TAC).
Senior Amanda Witherow knocked in three runs with two doubles and a solo home run, while senior Angelica Pugh also doubled for the Vikings (3-6, 2-4).
Mathews 5, Badger 0
VIENNA — Brittany Schnarrs pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out four and walking three, to lead Mathews (1-5). Jen Tillery had a two-run single and the Mustangs used two hits and four walks to score all five runs.
Kelsey Flowers tossed a four-hitter, striking out five and walking eight to get the loss for Badger (0-6).
