Race/fun walk to benefit local special olympics

NILES — The first phase of the May 4 Pump’n Run 5K race and fun walk fundraiser for Fairhaven Special Olympics will begin at Fitness One, 14 Youngstown-Warren Road, Pinetree Place Plaza in McKinley Heights.

Those participating in the unique event will be asked to bench press their body weight between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., with each repetition awarding 30 seconds off their race time. At 9:45 the race/walk will begin behind the McKinley Heights Fire Station. Participants will return to the fitness center, where an awards ceremony will take place.

The top three finishers in all male and all female age groups, the top male and female runners overall and the top bench-press male and female will receive trophies or ribbons. Each participant will also receive a T-shirt. Refreshments will be provided.
