Walters’ single lifts Boardman past Harding

WARREN — Eric Walters hit a bases-loaded single in the top of the eighth inning to score Dan Kubala with Monday winning run as the Boardman High baseball team defeated Warren Harding, 4-3.
Shane Parks pitched four-plus innings of scoreless relief to get the win for Boardman (6-2).
Pat O’Brien went 2-for-3 and Joe Strawinski had two RBIs to lead the Spartans.
Mike McClung went 2-for-3 for Harding and pitched the first seven innings for a no-decision.
Campbell 7, Howland 4
HOWLAND — The Red Devils (3-2, 2-1 Metro Athletic Conference) broke a 4-4 tie when they scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Leadoff batter Kyle Firm was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. He scored on a double by Alex Lopez.
Nico Magnolia reached base on an error and Eligio Bonilla walked to load the bases. Dan Sacui doubled home Lopez and Magnolia.
Sacui also hit two singles. Tom Hofus doubled, singled and scored.
Joe Aulizia and Adam Schrodek each hit a pair of singles for the Tigers (4-1, 1-1).
Niles 8, Struthers 6
NILES —A three-run third inning and four-run fifth was the big difference for the Red Dragons.
Scott Paden led the Red Dragons with a triple and double, and he drove in two runs.
Billy Noel hit a double and two singles and drove in three runs for the Wildcats. L.J. Schromofsky and Brian Palmer each had two hits.
Poland 16, Salem 0
SALEM — Jason Simons pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out four and walking two, for the Bulldogs (3-2, 2-0).
Mark Turnbull went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Matt Pitzulo scored three runs for Poland, which took a 10-0 lead after two innings.
The Quakers committed six errors.
Youngstown Christian 4, Chaney 1
YOUNGSTOWN — Winning pitcher Ed Gonda (3-0) struck out seven batters and walked one at Pemberton Park. Gonda’s two hits included a RBI single as the Eagles improved to 4-1.
For the Cowboys (2-3), Victor Cardarelli struck out seven batters and walked one.
Columbiana 10, Mineral Ridge 0
COLUMBIANA — Tyler Denmeade’s two hits drove in three runs for the Clippers (6-4, 2-3 Inter Tri-County League Tier One).
Jeff Davidson (2-0) was the winning pitcher.
For the Rams (3-6), Kyle Borton (0-2) took the loss.
East Palestine 11, South Range 1
EAST PALESTINE — Nick Baiamonte pitched a one-hitter over five innings. Tommy Powers added a scoreless inning of relief for East Palestine (5-1, 4-1 ITCL1). Taylor Snyder had three hits and two RBIs.
Steve Bensinger doubled for South Range (1-4).
Lowellville 6, Leetonia 1
LEETONIA — Winning pitcher Drew Skelley struck out seven batters and walked two for the Rockets (6-1, 5-1 ITCL2).
Losing pitcher Ryan Gruszecki (3-1) struck out 11 batters, walked four and gave up three hits in the Bears’ (6-1, 4-1) first loss.
Mike Demetro hit a triple and a single. He scored twice and drove in a run. Dante Abbas hit three sacrifice flies to drive in three runs.
Kent Roosevelt 5, Southeast 2
KENT — Unbeaten Kent Roosevelt (7-0) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and the Pirates (1-5) couldn’t catch up. D.J. Hinkle (2-0) worked six innings to pick up the win.
Philip Smith hit three singles while Colby Kehres hit a double and single.
Brent Ford hit a RBI single for Southeast.
