East side man arrested on gun, drug charges

YOUNGSTOWN — A loaded 9 mm handgun was found during a traffic stop on South Avenue at 2:45 a.m. today and the driver arrested.

Police charged Matthew Johnson, 27, of Orrin Avenue, with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of cocaine, driving left of center failure to display his driver’s license.

Police stopped the car Johnson was driving after he swerved into oncoming traffic. A search of the vehicle before it was towed revealed the gun and a bag of suspected crack cocaine inside the glove box, where Johnson had reached when officers approached the car, reports show.
