Two injured when small plane crashes in North Lima


NORTH LIMA — The Ohio Highway State Highway Patrol is investigating an airplane accident this afternoon at the Elser Metro Airport on Sharrott Road.

According to Michael Stanko, airport owner, Malcolm Campbell of Hastings, Ill., was making passes over the airport area in his yellow open cockpit biplane at about 1 p.m. He said as Campbell made a third pass over the airport, the plane showed signs of trouble.

“It almost looked like it literally just fell out of the sky,” he said.

Stanko said Campbell was flown to a hospital by helicopter. An unidentified passenger was taken to a hospital by ambulance. He didn’t know which hospitals

No one on the ground at the time of the accident was injured.

Stanko said the accident is the first at the airport in at least five years.
