LOWELLVILLE — The CSX railroad crossing at First Street in the village will be closed for repairs today through Thursday. Motorists should use the Third Street crossing as an alternative passage across the tracks.

Howland branch pickup

HOWLAND – The township-sponsored spring limb and branch pickup will be this month and in May.

Limbs and branches will be picked up April 21 on the streets and areas east of Mosquito Creek and May 5 on the west side of the creek, along North Road and streets off of it.

Piles must be placed at the road, cut and facing the street. Only trimmed or pruned root-free branches up to 6 inches in diameter will be picked up. Wood piles should be no larger that 4 by 8 feet. No firewood, large logs or complete trees will be picked up.

Marsico speaks to Dems

LOWELLVILLE — Richard Marsico, Mahoning County engineer, will be the guest speaker at the North Mahoning County Democrats meeting at 7:30 p.m. today in the upstairs auditorium at village hall.

Forum on POWs

WARREN – The experiences of prisoners of war during World War II will be presented during a program at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave.

Dr. Helena Sinnreich, director of the Center of Judaic and Holocaust Studies at Youngstown State University, will discuss the experiences of American POWs in Nazi Germany and explore the contrast between U.S. troops in German prison camps and German POWs in North America.

Howland branch is 10

HOWLAND – The Howland branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Wednesday at the branch.

Friends of the Howland Library is co-sponsoring a customer appreciation day with a drawing for a gift basket or gift certificate from 9 to 11 a.m. when muffins will be served, or 5 to 7 p.m. with punch and cookies.

The branch was originally in the Howland Plaza and moved to its East Market Street location in April 1998. Special features include an amphitheater-style story garden for children, fireplace and lounge area, reading courtyard for adults and an area with books and magazines for teens.

Lordstown applications

LORDSTOWN – Applications for the school district’s open enrollment can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at the board of education offices, 1824 Salt Springs Road. The completed application can be dropped off during the same hours at the superintendent’s office by May 1.

Library repairs finished

CORTLAND – The children’s and teen areas of the Cortland branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 212 N. High St., has reopened to customers.
