WARREN — Matthew G. Vansuch, an attorney with the law firm of Harrington, Hoppe Mitchell Ltd., has been recognized by the University of Akron School of Law with its 2008 Alumni Publication Award. Vansuch, a member of the school’s 2005 graduating class, was honored for his article titled “Icing the Judicial Hellholes: Congress’ Attempt to Put Out ‘Frivolous’ Lawsuits Burns a Hole in the Constitution,” published in the Seton Hall Legislative Journal.

BROOKFIELD — Lisa Dickson of Decorating in a Day Corp. in Brookfield has been selected as one of the five finalists of the first Stager Idol competition for professional home stagers. The judges included Ann Maurice, the House Doctor; Stephanie McWilliams of the HGTV show “Fun Shui”; and Margi Kyle of TV’s “Desperate Designs.”

SALEM — Edward “Ned” Jones III, president of Gordon Brothers in Salem, received the Hall of Fame Award from the Water Quality Association. Awards were presented in Las Vegas at the WQA Aquatech USA 2008 convention and trade show. In the presentation, Jones was called “someone whose name has come to be synonymous with dedication and service.” Jones was WQA president in 1999, has served on its board of directors for the past three years and is a member of the Water Quality Research Foundation.

C. David Vance III of Franklin, Ohio, formerly of Ellsworth Township, was presented with his Professional Engineering License at a ceremony hosted by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors and the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers. Vance earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Tennessee Technological University. He is employed by the United States Air Force as a quality engineer in cargo aircraft systems.

BOARDMAN — Valerie D’Apolito of Edward Jones’ Boardman office has achieved the professional designation of accredited asset management specialist. Advanced training for the designation offers investment professionals the information needed to provide comprehensive financial services.
