Fast facts
Valley View Downs is a racino, or combination racetrack and casino, that will be built on 250 acres bounded by U.S. Route 422, state Route 551 and Baird Road in Mahoning Township, Lawrence County. Centaur Gaming Inc. of Indiana is the developer.
The site will feature a milelong harness racing track and a 273,000-square-foot club house with 3,000 slot machines, dining areas, a sports bar, and indoor and outdoor seating for viewing the races. The site also leaves room for expansion, including more floor space for the casino and a 300-room hotel.
The development is expected to create 1,500 construction jobs and 1,000 permanent full- and part-time jobs.
The county is expected to collect $15 million annually in revenues from the development; the state is expected to collect $150 million.
The estimated cost of the project is $428 million.
Four million people are expected to visit every year.
What’s next: Centaur has to get its gaming license from the state. That is expected to happen by this fall. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will have a public hearing in Mahoning Township at 9 a.m. May 15, at the community center on U.S. 224. The Mahoning Township supervisors must also approve the site plan.
