Poland girls capture East Palestine event
Struthers’ Ashley Galbraith won the 300 hurdles and the high jump.
EAST PALESTINE — Katie Fisher, Chelsea Conzett, Erin Sweeney and Samantha Robertson got the Poland High girls off to a fast start Saturday as they took first place in the 4x800-meter relay in 10 minutes, 41.8 seconds.
The Bulldogs went on to win the East Palestine Girls Invitational track and field meet by scoring 86 points. Fitch came in second with 74 and Massillon Perry was third with 69 in the field of 15 schools.
Amanda Cox of Poland won the shot put (38 feet, 10 inches).
Ashley Galbraith of Struthers took first place in the 300 hurdles (49.5) and the high jump (5-2).
Salem’s Lexi Shivers won the 800 (2:33.5), while the Quakers’ Lauren Shivers was first in the 3200 (11:44.9). Sarah Brobeck took the discus (119-5) and she was second in the shot (37-3 1/2). Teammate Sarah Yerkey was first in the 1600 (5:40.6).
Shatasia Walker of Chaney took first place in the 100 hurdles (17.2) and she was second in the 300 hurdles (51.3).
Jen Shiley of Fitch took first place in the 400 (61.9), while the Falcons’ Alexis Cooper, Lindsay Koontz, Taylor Entzi and Shiley won the 4x400 relay (4:21.6.).
Lakeview girls win
CORTLAND — The Lakeview High girls scored 77 points and the Crestwood boys scored 61 to capture team titles at the Lakeview Invitational relays.
Lakeview took first place in the 4x400 relay (4:25.6). Ursuline took first place in the 4x100 relay (52.2), the 4x200 relay (1:53.7) and the 800 sprint medley (1:58.6).
Ursuline’s boys won the 110 shuttle hurdles (64.9). The Irish’s Jamel Turner tied for first place in the high jump relay (6-0). Ben Moody of Lakeview took first in the long jump relay (19-10).
Western Reserve meet
BERLIN CENTER — The St Thomas Aquinas High boys scored 74.5 points to win the Western Reserve Invitational track and field meet. Gilmour Academy rolled to the girls crown with 130.3 points.
Audrey Mahue of Warren JFK took first place in the 1600 in a record 5 minutes, 25.54 seconds and she won the 800 (2:23.6). The Eagles’ Jenna Ahladis, Erin McBride, Kelsie Massacci and Jamie Prezioso won the 4x100 relay (55.0).
Nicole Honsaker of Mineral Ridge sprinted to first place in the 200 (28.8) and she was second in the 100 (13.5) and second in the long jump (16-0).
Samantha Hamilton of Jackson-Milton took the 3200 (12:24.8) and she was third in the 400 (63.5). Emily Dolsak and Joh’Vonnie Mosley of McDonald placed first (122-6) and second (114-6) in the discus, respectively.
Ryan Pal of Lordstown took the 110 hurdles (16.4) and he was third in the 300 hurdles (43.7). Mike Davis of Mathews took the 100 (11.5) and he anchored the winning 4x100 relay (46.4).
Tim Vala of Gilmour Academy set a record in the discus with a throw of 166-9. Kaid Todd of Leetonia took first place in the long jump (20-91‚Ñ2).
