Penn-Ohio has top amateurs
YOUNGSTOWN — The Penn-Ohio Golf League will begin its 62nd season April 20 at Yankee Run Golf Course.
The league is comprised of some of the best amateur golfers from the Valley who compete in head-to-head competition over five weeks.
Each week the four teams compete in stroke and match play with two points per man on each six-man team. Totals points at the end of the season determines the league champion.
Canfield’s Marlowe Coffee is the defending league champion and is looking for some strong play from team members Scott Porter, who had the league’s low average last year, and Jim Perry, who was the league’s points leader.
Youngstown, Sharon and Grove City will be trying to take the title away from Canfield.
Bill Santor, one of the league’s leaders who played for over 25 years and will return to play at the season-ending Legends outing, summed up the league in one statement.
“This is a mixture of golfers who want to win, enjoy strong competition year after year and when it’s all over you have friends for life.”
