Mooney’s Hrehor, Boardman’s Marrow go yard


The Cardinals, Spartans and Struthers Wildcats swept twinbills.

BOARDMAN — Sophomore Christina Hrehor homered twice Saturday to lead the Mooney High softball team to a 13-4 victory over Champion.

Hrehor had four RBIs and also homered in Mooney’s game with Springfield to set a school record for most roundtrippers in a day.

Kristen Stahl’s three hits included a double. Cheryl Guyer had three hits while Jamie Clausen had two.

For the Golden Flashes (4-3), Katie Saluga had two hits.

Mooney 9, Springfield 3

BOARDMAN — Clausen, a freshman, won her first varsity start, striking out eight and walking three.

Hrehor homered and doubled while Stahl and Guyer had three hits each for the Cardinals (7-0). Katie Hughes doubled.

For the Tigers (3-4), Rebecca Evan homered and doubled.

Boardman 2, Strongsville 1

BOARDMAN — Junior Shannon Morrow’s solo home run in the bottom of the sixth snapped a 1-1 tie to lead Boardman to victory.

Lizzie Padgitt had an RBI single in first inning and added a double.

Strongsville’s Nikki Peskura had the only two hits against Kelsey Ford.

The Mustangs’ record is 3-2.

Boardman 11, Northwest 5

BOARDMAN — Morrow had eight RBIs for the Spartans (5-1).

Morrow had a grand slam, a three-run homer and a double.

Jamie Massaro had three singles, Ford, Katie Hawkins and Padgitt had two singles apiece while Julie Olbrych doubled for Boardman.

Northwest is 5-2.

Struthers 2-6, Hubbard 1-3

STRUTHERS — Dom Martino homered, Nicolette Demyan’s two hits included a double and Halle Minchin-Skook had two hits for the Wildcats.

Kara Egelsky and Jen Taffe singled and scored for the Eagles.

In the second game, winning pitcher Ellen Becker struck out nine batters. Wyntre Wasilewski homered while Martino and Jackie Deem each had two hits for Struthers (8-2).

For the Eagles, Karrie Durina doubled while Ashley Bone had two hits.

Lowellville 11, Columbiana 6

LOWELLVILLE —Stephanie Gruber had a two-run triple and an RBI single, Cori Pavlicko had a pair of run-scoring singles, Brooke Pallozzi had two singles and three RBIs and Jill Cholensky had two singles for the Rockets.

For Columbiana, Corinne Brothers had two singles and a RBI and Kaitlin Steeb had two singles and an RBI.

Columbiana 7, Lowellville 3

LOWELLVILLE — Winning pitcher Brothers had two singles, Katie Witmer doubled and Kaitlin Steeb added an a RBI single for the Clippers, who benefited from 12 errors.

For Lowellville, Shawna McDowell had two singles and a RBI and Nicole Stoddard had an RBI single.

Southern 11-9, East Liverpool 1-5

SALINEVILLE — Winning pitcher Marla Pitts had three hits to drive in four runs to set a Southern record.

Brie Crum’s three hits included a triple.

In the second game, Taylor Kelm, Virginia Laudrille and Harley Hughes each had two hits for the Indians.

Southeast 8-11, West Branch 0-1

RAVENNA — Danielle Kaley was the winning pitcher in the first game, tossing a three-hitter.

Shannon Hamilton won the second game and contributed a home run and double to drive in three runs.

Cali Hardy had two hits for the Warriors.
