Lakeside offers youth league and events for adults

Golf etiquette is shared with those learning to play.

LAKE MILTON — Youth golfers are invited to join a youth league and adult golfers can participate in several special events at Lakeside Golf Course in Lake Milton during the 2008 season.

The youth league will be held Tuesday mornings from June 17-July 22 at 8:30 a.m. The league will feature three age brackets: 9-10 years; 11-12 years; and 13-14 years.

Golfers are required to have their own clubs and prior instruction. For a $50 fee, the golfers will enjoy a weekly nine-hole round of golf for five weeks, including a field day and prizes. Lunch will be provided after each round.

The league is designed to encourage young golfers to play on a routine basis with friends and learn about golf etiquette. Registration packets may be picked up at Lakeside. Early registration is encouraged. There is a limit on the number of golfers in each age bracket.

Some special events planned for adult golfers include Cinco de Mayo, May 3; Wine Nine, July 19; and the John Mary Gura Memorial Golf Outing, Aug. 2.

The Cinco de Mayo event will include Mexican food, hole contests and other festivities. Lakeside will partner with Mastropi tro Winery in Berlin Center for a “Wine and Nine” event featuring a wine tasting and a nine-hole, two-person scramble.

At the Gura Memorial, golfers will play a four-person scramble, compete for cash and other prizes, and enjoy lunch and a steak dinner. Proceeds will support The John Mary Gura Memorial Scholarship Fund for Jackson-Milton and Western Reserve high school students who excel in academics and athletics.

Lakeside Golf Course, an 18-hole public course located at 2404 S.E. River Rd. in Lake Milton, features a clubhouse, an outdoor patio and several pavilions.
