Happy 100th Birthday Martha M. Cullinan
Born: March 20, 1908, in Warren. She has been a resident of Austintown for 70 years.
Background: In 1926 she (then Martha Manville) and Ralph Cullinan were in the first class to graduate from Warren Harding High School. They were married in 1928. She went on to graduate from Cleveland Institute of Art, and he graduated from Western Reserve University School of Pharmacy. The couple opened their land to the Austintown Community Baseball League to be used free of charge as baseball fields for 30 years. Cullinan Field was recently sold and is now known as Koch Field.
Siblings: One brother, Joe, who died when he was 15.
Children: A son, James Cullinan of Canfield.
Grandchildren: A granddaughter, Colleen Craig of Austintown.
Great-grandchildren: Michael and Christine Craig of Austintown.
Church affiliations: Belongs to Austintown Community Church.
Activities: She is a gourmet cook, a talented musician and an equestrian. She has always had a horse; she presently owns a horse and has two dogs that are her constant companions.
Memories: She recalls the presidencies of Theodore Roosevelt through George W. Bush, and remembers such historical events as World War I, World War II, the Great Depression, the 1920s Prohibition, the Korean War, jet and atomic propulsion and the landing of the first man on the moon.
Celebrations: Her granddaughter hosted a party for her on March 20, and her son and her daughter-in-law, Margaret Cullinan, had another party in her honor on March 29 at Das Dutch Haus Restaurant in Columbiana. Friends and family were in attendance, and she received proclamations from Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland and the Austintown Trustees and a letter from Willard Scott.
