Bill Snier to be inducted into hall in Canton
Youngstown native Bill Snier will become the second media member to join the Greater Canton USBC Bowling Association Hall of Fame when induction ceremonies are held May 14 at Rolando’s Restaurant in Canton.
Snier, a Cardinal Mooney High School and Youngstown State University graduate, is the group’s meritorious service honoree.
As The Canton Repository’s bowling writer for the past 18 seasons, Snier has more than 20 national bowling writing awards and is co-director for three Stark County major bowling tournaments: the Colonial Doubles, Seven Hills Junior-Senior Trio and Stark County Singles. He also is a junior coach at Park Centre Lanes.
The Youngstown-Salem USBC Women’s Bowling Association’s 65th city tournament is May 1-8.
Entries are available at all bowling centers.
The four-woman team event and the doubles and singles events will be at Wedgewood Lanes.
Members can bowl more than once in the team event as long as there is a change of at least two team members. Also, members may bowl more than once in doubles by changing partners provided the first initial singles/doubles event has been completed.
Entry fee is $16 for each event.
There will be added money to the prize list from the Tilly Tatar Trust Fund.

Liberty Tax Service of Leavitts-burg and Freeway Lanes in Warren will present a “Bowling for Babies” benefit tournament April 19.
The event, for the March of Dimes’ march for babies, is from 1 to 4 p.m.

Holiday’s Wednesday Men’s League was in the limelight April 2 when Jim Dodge had 300-802, followed by league secretary Dan Montemarano’s 294-761.
For the second week in a row in Holiday’s Tri-County Classic, Tim Graham had a 300 after games of 257 and 226 for 783 on March 18.
Anthony Harris, like Graham, was perfect on the final game of his 728 series when Harris started with Harris 234 and 194 in George’s Music Shop at Wedgewood March 17.
Rob Vukovich had 300 and Don Bagdassarian Jr. 299 in Belchyk/Ferkula Classic at Holiday, where Russ Speziale’s 300 highlighted action in Charlie’s Service on April Fools’ Day night.
Jim Valentine had 300 and Matt Clipse 290 and the pair had the top two sets, 784 & 782, respectively, in Austintown Suburban at Wedgewood March 25.
Wes Grzywna’s 300 led Sure Shot Communications at Camelot April 2 and Tim Graham’s 299-791 paced Spiech Classic at Bell-Wick April 7.
Boardman High bowler Ciarra Moran had 270-736 April 5 in Camelot Majors.
Lisa Pecorelli’s 732 and Marla Chicase’s 709 paced Thursday Night Matchplay at Amron March 27.
Judy Lazar’s 167-445 was the top score on the final night of St. Brendan Women’s League at West Side April 8.
Zid Realty was fourth-quarter winner in Armando Saab Classic at West Side and Nancy Potter had a 168 triplicate in George’s Music Shop at Wedgewood March 24.
Ten years ago, on April 10, 1996, Norm Duke set a Professional Bowlers Association record with three consecutive 300s. Duke, who finished the first round with consecutive 300s, opened the second round with his third perfect game of the day.
