Big inning leads Fitch over Niles
Mineral Ridge, Columbiana and Lowellville swept doubleheaders.
AUSTINTOWN — Jason Bagoly’s double during a seven-run sixth inning helped the Fitch High baseball team defeat Niles, 7-4, Saturday.
Winning pitcher Adam Meese struck out seven batters for the Falcons (4-2).
Andrew Warren had a RBI single as the Falcons sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth inning.
The Red Dragons (1-5) scored four runs in the first inning with Mike Live and Scott Paden hitting doubles.
Canton GlenOak 11-1, Canfield 5-11
CANTON — In the second game, junior Jared Turocy (2-0) tossed a one-hitter, striking out 10.
Turocy had two hits and scored twice while Jake Kucek’s two hits included a homer. Andrew Zunic doubled.
In the first game, Dan Banna doubled for Canfield.
Mineral Ridge 8-2, Lisbon 3-1
LISBON — Winning pitcher Anthony Pannunzio (1-2) struck out six batters and walked four in the opener. Dominic Armeni’s three hits included two doubles.
Joe Mulichak’s three hits included a two-run single. Derek Gustovich had a double.
For the Blue Devils, Aaron Sweeney tripled and Dana Rose doubled.
In the second game, Armeni doubled and Jason Ferguson had two hits for the Rams (3-5, 2-4 Inter Tri-County League).
Kyle Hiscox doubled for the Blue Devils (2-5, 2-4).
Columbiana 3-9, Maplewood 2-5
COLUMBIANA — Winning pitcher Robb Barbato and Josh Saverko combined to strike out 15 Rockets in tossing a three-hitter in the opener.
Josh Herald doubled to drive in two runs for the Clippers.
In the second game, Travis Dunmeade drove in five runs with four hits for the Clippers (5-4). Jeff Davidson and Josh Weikert each ad two hits.
Tyler Dejong (2-1) was the winning pitcher.
For the Rockets, losing pitcher Mike Finch (0-1) doubled twice, Tom Brenker doubled and Chris Tucker had two hits.
Lowellville 10, Jackson-Milton 9
STRUTHERS — Anthony Alfano’s two hits included a triple as he drove in two runs for the Rockets (5-2, 4-1 ITCL). Drew Skelley doubled.
The Bluejays are 0-5, 0-3.
Lowellville 16, Youngstown Christian 12
STRUTHERS — Skelley and Alfano doubled while Jim Sudon and Tony Schaldone tripled.
West Branch 11, Southeast 1
RAVENNA — Josh Antill and Trent Woods combined to toss a one-hitter for the Warriors (5-0).
Evan Campbell’s three hits included a homer and double. Jarrod Harris’ two hits included a homer while Steve McNeely and Eric Stull each had two hits.
For the Pirates (1-4), Anthony Pennington’s single in the sixth inning broke up the no-hitter.
