Randi Rhodes resigns

NEW YORK — Randi Rhodes has quit the Air America radio network, a week after it suspended her for using a derogatory word for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton during an event in San Francisco. Air America Media released a statement Thursday saying the talk show host informed the company Wednesday night that she was severing ties with the liberal network.

The network suspended Rhodes indefinitely for what it said was “abusive, obscene language” during an off-air event sponsored by affiliate KKGN-AM in San Francisco on March 22. During a curse-filled standup routine, Rhodes ranted about Clinton, called former congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro “David Duke in drag,” and joked that both women were “whores.”

Heather the baptist

LONDON — Heather Mills says she snapped when she poured a jug of water over the head of ex-husband Paul McCartney’s lawyer during their bitter divorce battle. Mills was awarded a $48.6 million settlement from McCartney last month. They had been married for four years.

She told Britain’s GMTV on Friday that she became angry when his lawyer, Fiona Shackleton, argued that full details of the case, including some related to the couple’s 4-year-old daughter, Beatrice, should be disclosed.

“Mrs. Shackleton said something under her breath so I cleansed and baptized her,” Mills said. “I thought she looked fantastic — I thought it did her the world of good.”

Asked about recent pictures in tabloid newspapers of McCartney, 65, and New Jersey trucking heiress Nancy Shevell, 47, Mills said she wished any new girlfriend luck. “Well I think he’s got three different girlfriends so I wish all the girls the best of luck,” she said.

Vanilla Ice arrested

WELLINGTON, Fla. — Vanilla Ice was held without bond Friday following his arrest on a charge of simple domestic battery after an alleged argument with his wife at their South Florida home.

The 39-year-old rapper’s wife called the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday night, saying he had kicked and hit her. She later told deputies he had only pushed her, the arrest report said. The report said Vanilla Ice denied pushing her.

Vanilla Ice spent a night in jail in 2001 after being arrested following a domestic dispute. He sold 15 million copies of the single “Ice Ice Baby” in 1990.
