Open enrollment deadline for Weathersfield schools

MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Local School District is accepting applications for open enrollment through May 1.

Those interested in applying for open enrollment can pick up an application at any school building or in the administration office at the middle school between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on days that school is in session.

Open enrollment is for pupils from contiguous districts. Applications and the child’s academic records from their current school are due in the superintendent’s office before 3:30 p.m. May 1.

Applicants will be notified of their acceptance or denial by June 30.

Immaculate Heart of Mary accepting applications

AUSTINTOWN — Immaculate Heart of Mary School, 4470 Norquest Blvd., is accepting registrations for the 2008-09 school year for children preschool through eighth grade.

Annual Golf Outing set for PSU Beaver society

MONACA, Pa. — The Penn State Beaver Alumni Society’s eighth Annual Golf Outing will be held Sept. 8 at Seven Oaks Country Club, Brighton Township. Registration for foursomes and individuals and golf outing sponsorships are available.

Proceeds are used to enhance the society’s endowed scholarship for Beaver campus students and to support new on-campus signage. To date, the society’s golf outings have raised more than $65,000.

NEOEA picks president for 2009-10 school year

WARREN — Jeffery J. Pegg, a teacher in the Warren City Schools for 24 years, has been chosen president-elect of the North Eastern Ohio Education Association (NEOEA) at the NEOEA spring Representative Assembly.

His term will be for the 2009-10 school year. He served as NEOEA president in the 2004-05 school year and has been president of the Warren Education Association for the past eight years.

He has served on the Ohio Education Association (OEA) Board of Directors for three years and the NEOEA Board of Directors for nine years. The NEOEA represents 33,000 teachers and educational support professionals.

Grove City debate team places 11th in the U.S.

GROVE CITY, Pa. — In only its second year of competition in parliamentary debate, the Grove City College Speech and Debate Team finished 11th in the country as ranked by the National Parliamentary Debate Association, one of the largest intercollegiate debate associations.

To close out the year, the team competed in the national tournament at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Before nationals, the debaters traveled to other regional competitions, as well as the National Christian Colleges Forensic Invitational. There, three of Grove City College’s teams were in the top eight and two were in the top four.

Hiram College sets several open houses

HIRAM — Hiram College invites prospective students of all ages to attend one of several open houses scheduled this spring to learn about academic and co-curricular programs as well as admission and registration requirements.
