Autographs available

AUSTINTOWN — Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik will sign autographs at an American Cancer Society benefit from 10 a.m. to noon today at American General Insurance on 320 South Canfield Road in Austintown.

Autographed photos (which will be provided) or personal items are $10. Photos with Pavlik are also $10. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Pavlik’s father, Mike Sr., will also attend.

Sharon Speedway to host challenge

HARTFORD — Ollie’s Bargain Outlet has been announced as the sponsor of the Ollie’s 360 Challenge, a three-race series pitting NASCAR drivers Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne and Dave Blaney against some of the nation’s top 360 sprint car drivers.

The challenge will feature a total three-event purse of more than $80,000, with $6,000 going to each A-main winner. Additionally, a bonus of $50,000 will be offered to any driver who can win two of three A-main features.

The challenge will kick off with a race at Sharon Speedway June 17. The second round will be at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, July 8.

Carson has top series

STRUTHERS — Shirley Carson’s 726 actual was the top series rolled during the Youngstown-Salem USBC Women’s Bowling Association’s 16th Senior Tournament, held at Holiday Bowl.

Carson won Class D for ages 55-59.

Olga Krupa, Joan Davis, Nancy H. Cramer and Pat Traylor were other division winners.

Krupa won Class AA for ages 77-and-over with 707, Davis won Class A (70-76 years) with 645, Cramer won Class B (65-69) with 662 and Traylor won Class C (60-64) with 684.

Krupa was also recognized for a 246 game that was 103 pins over average, while Wanda J. Dechert had a 191 triplicate in Class A.

Field dedication

CANFIELD — The Canfield Baseball Club will dedicate a new field, Field 3, as The James and Coralie (Cork) Centofanti Charitable Foundation Field.

The official ceremony will take place on April 28 at 5:30 p.m. on the field.

James Centofanti from the foundation and Mark Graham from Farmers’ National Bank will be present at the event.

Gumbel gives up

LOS ANGELES — Bryant Gumbel has given up his role as an NFL Network play-by-play announcer after two seasons.

The NFL Network said Friday it was looking for a new play-by-play announcer to work with Cris Collinsworth on the network’s Thursday and Saturday night games.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL Network games the past two years, which was a new experience for me,” Gumbel said in a statement. “But we’ve agreed that we’d all be better served going in different directions.”

Guppy leaves team

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — The Chicago Fire announced president and general manager John Guppy has left the team.

Fire owner Andrew Hauptman said he appreciated Guppy’s contributions over the past four years. He said in a statement Friday it was in the team’s best interests to go in a new direction.

The Fire said the two sides “agreed to part ways.”

Andell Sports Group Managing Director Javier Leon will serve as interim president and general manager. The team said officials will begin looking for a permanent replacement immediately. Guppy’s departure wasn’t the only recent change for the Fire. Longtime assistant Denis Hamlett became head coach in January.

Kip DeVille wins

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kip Deville won the $300,000 Maker’s Mark Mile for the second straight year, returning from a long layoff to beat Einstein by a length Friday.
