YOUNGSTOWN — Fellows Riverside Gardens will be the setting April 19 and 20 for a standard spring flower show to be presented by the Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area.
Entries must be submitted between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. April 19, and the show will be open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. that day and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 20. Handbooks for the show will be available.

Administrative assistants to have special day
CANFIELD — A fourth annual Administrative Assistant Day event has been planned for April 22 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center. 2188 W. Western Reserve Road.
The motivational speaker for the day will be Brian Blasko, whose contagious energy encourages others to feel comfortable about themselves and their personal development.
The program will include a fashion show presented by Linda Deckant, owner of Possessions, door prizes, displays by more than 20 vendors and giveaways.
Those attending can choose a breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. or a lunch buffet from 11:15 to 1:45 p.m.

Salem Quota Club offers $500 scholarship
SALEM — The Salem Quota Club is offering a $500 scholarship this year for its annual Mona McArtor Quota Award, established in 1978 as a memorial to her.
In keeping with Quota’s major service emphasis on aiding the hearing and speech impaired, a qualifying applicant is required to be enrolled or enrolling in an accredited college or university to major in audiology, speech pathology or deaf education.
The applicant must reside in and be a graduating or graduated senior from Salem, Lisbon, South Range, United, West Branch, Leetonia or Columbiana school districts. The applicant may also be enrolled at Youngstown State University, Kent State University, Mount Union College or the University of Akron.
Application forms and other materials are available from the guidance counselors at the school districts and from the universities, or can be obtained by calling (330) 332-9072.
The deadline for filing an application, along with two faculty reference letters, is April 30. The Quota Awards Committee will select a winner, and all applicants will be notified of the results by mid-May.
Pavlik boxing gloves among benefit prizes
AUSTINTOWN — The Pink Elephant Lounge, 6135 Mahoning Ave., will be the setting from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday for an evening of fun, food and prizes to be held as a benefit for Tracey Singiser of Austintown, a breast cancer patient who has no health insurance.
There will be a 50-50 raffle, gift baskets, a Chinese auction and karaoke entertainment.
During the evening a pair of boxing gloves signed by Kelly Pavlik will be awarded as the grand prize.

St. Rose ladies plan installation at banquet
HUBBARD — The Ladies of Mount Carmel of St. Rose Church will install recently elected officers during a Mother’s Day banquet to be held at 6 p.m. May 13 at the Brentford House.
Inducted will be Pat Ginocchi, president; Teresa Kuhn, vice president; Tina Sicilano, secretary; and Louise Rose, treasurer, who will serve terms for 2008-2010.
The buffet dinner will include macaroni and meatballs, oven-baked chicken, baked Virginia ham with raisin sauce, sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, salad, rolls, dessert and beverage.
The cost is $14 for adults, $7 for children 6 to 12 and free for those 5 and under.

Salon at Macys to sponsor benefit
YOUNGSTOWN — An “Autism: Cut, Style, Cure” event will be sponsored by the Salon at Macy’s from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 20 on the second floor of Macy’s at the Southern Park Mall as a benefit for The Rich Center for Autism.
Special prices have been set for services at the salon during the event. A cut and style will be $15, waxing will be $6 and a polish change will be $5.

Reverse mortgages to be discussed
YOUNGSTOWN — A talk on “Reverse Mortgages” will be presented by Jim Ditch of National City Bank during a meeting of the Croatian Pensioners of Mahoning Valley at noon Thursday at the Croatian Home, 3200 Vestal Road.
Reservations will be accepted by Veronica Fabanish for the Founders Day dinner to be at noon May 15. The entree choices will be rib-eye steak, $13; two breaded pork chops, $11; or half a baked chicken, $10. Make checks payable to the Croatian Pensioners.
