Champion 1, Lakeview 0, 12 innings
CORTLAND — Jessica Frantz hit a two-out single in the top of the 12th inning to drive in the game’s only run in a Trumbull Athletic Conference softball battle. The real battle was on the mound as Champion’s Morgan White and Lakeview’s Abbey Bensing locked horns in a 12-inning duel that featured 48 strikeouts, 25 by White and 23 by Bensing. While also only allowed one hit. The Flashes (4-2, 3-0 TAC) were led by Amanda Sain with two hits, while Katie Saluga led off the 12th inning with a single and after two outs, Bensing walked Taylor Petersal. Frantz then followed with the game-winning single. Champion had five hits. Angela DiCesare had the only hit for Lakeview (3-1, 3-1).
Liberty 6, Brookfield 0
BROOKFIELD — Sophomore Allison House had 10 strikeouts in a three-hitter for Liberty. Junior Kacey Kurtz had two hits and four stolen bases, Brittany Esposito had two hits and junior Melissa Dykes tripled for the Leopards (1-2, 1-1 TAC).
LaBrae 9, Girard 1
GIRARD — Chelsie Hartman pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven and walking one, to lead LaBrae (2-3, 1-3). Hartman also doubled, Angelica Pugh had two hits, including a triple, and Bayle Boggs and Emily Potter each added two hits. Katie Noday struck out five and walked five for Girard (1-4, 0-4).
Warren JFK 3, Ursuline 2
YOUNGSTOWN — Rachel Pico pitched a five-hitter, striking out 12 without a walk, as JFK survived a scare in the bottom of the seventh to hold on for a Steel Valley Conference win. After back-to-back singles by Kasey Foley and Nikka Bonamase started the seventh, Sara Marr hit a two-run double to cut the deficit to one. One out later, Casey Lower hit a grounder through the infield, but left fielder Gina Gelsomino backed up the play and threw the runner out at third. Pico struck out the final batter to secure the win.
Warren Harding 12, East 2
YOUNGSTOWN — Kourtney Williams had four RBIs and Kamela Bender had two hits to lead Harding (1-3), which scored nine runs in the first inning to take control.
Mooney 19, Chaney 0
YOUNGSTOWN — Christina Hrehor doubled, homered and drove in four runs to lead Mooney (4-0, 1-0 SVC), which had 12 batters get a hit and 11 score a run. Kelcie Herberger and Jamie Clausen combined on a one-hitter. Chaney is 2-3, 1-1.
Fitch 4, Ashtabula Lakeside 0
AUSTINTOWN — Katie O’Loughlin drove in two runs and Heidi Soriano (3-0) pitched three scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win for Fitch (4-1). Lakeside is 1-1.
Struthers 5, Poland 1
POLAND — Ashley Baron struck out five and walked one, tossing a three-hitter to help the Struthers earn a rare win over Poland in Metro Athletic Conference action. Dom Martino had three hits and an RBI for the Wildcats, while Pam Sajnoviski had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run and Wynter Wasilewski had two hits and an RBI. Liz Maher (2-1) pitched six innings to get the loss for Poland (4-1, 0-1).
Canfield 12, Campbell 0
CAMPBELL — Lauren Sulick struck out 10 during a one-hitter for Canfield (2-0, 2-0 MAC). Melissa West had two home runs and a double for four RBIs, sister Melanie West had a home run and double for three RBIs and Tricia Bettura knocked in two runs with three hits, two of which were doubles. Bianca Biondillo and Mandi Moliterno also doubled.Sophomore Alexis Tych had the lone hit for Campbell (0-3, 0-1 MAC).
Niles 8, Salem 1
NILES —Brooke Joseph went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, Kelly Shamrock was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Danielle Berringer was 2-for-3 with a double for Niles (3-2, 2-0).
Howland 7, Jefferson
JEFFERSON — Katie Peoples and Jena Debiec each had two hits, while Abby Nicholas and Danielle Strawn aded two RBIs for Howland (1-3). Jefferson is 3-1.
South Range 7, Leetonia 3
NORTH LIMA — Megan Beachley had two hits, including a solo homer that started a six-run sixth inning, as South Range (3-2) handed Leetonia (6-1) its first loss. Chelsea Leson had two hits and drove in two runs, while Autumn Carter also had two hits. Bobbie Miller had two hits for the Bears.
Maplewood 4, Py. Valley 2
ANDOVER — Amanda Peska picked up her second win, tossing a three-hitter for Maplewood. Peska also had two hits, as did Tarra Snyder for the Rockets (4-2).
