‘Lucasville’ presentation examines riot issues
YOUNGSTOWN — “Lucasville: The Untold Story of a Prison Uprising” will be presented as a stage reading this weekend in Spotlight Arena Theater in Bliss Hall at Youngstown State University. “Lucasville” is based on the book by Staughton Lynd, a lawyer and civil rights activist from Niles, with the cooperation of the five men who were sentenced to death for their alleged roles in the 1993 uprising at the Ohio maximum security prison in Lucasville. Show times are 8 p.m Friday and Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. Lynd, Gary L. Anderson and Christopher Fidram wrote the stage adaptation. Brandon Martin is the director.

Greenville Symphony prepares final concert
GREENVILLE, Pa. — For its final concert of this season, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, with music director Michael Gelfand, will present “The Fantastic Zoological Orchestra Family Concert” at 3 p.m. Sunday. Guest artists will include the Thiel College Choir, which will sing Copeland’s “American Songs.” Also, the piano duo of Caroline Oltmanns and James Wilding will present Camille Saint-Saens’ “Carnival of Animals.”Gelfand has included “The Theme From E.T.” and “Man from LaMancha” on the program. The concert will be in the Passavant Center on the campus of Thiel College. Tickets are $15 ($13 for seniors) and are available at the door. Children and students are free.
Mill Creek is accepting facility reservations
YOUNGSTOWN — Mill Creek MetroParks is accepting reservations for its picnic pavilions. The pavilions accommodate 25 to 150 people. Also available are cabins for 25 to 48 people, banquet halls for 100 to 250 people, several small classrooms and two outdoor areas for weddings. Most facilities can be rented up to one year in advance. Prices range from $35 for smaller picnic pavilions to $500 and up for the banquet halls. Youth production of ‘Pocahontas’
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The New Castle Playhouse will present a youth production of “The Legend of Pocahontas.” The cast is made up mainly of pupils 8 to 18 from local school districts. Based on a story by Vera Morris, the historically accurate play tells of a spirited 11-year-old Indian girl, Pocahontas, and the handsome British captain, John Smith. Directed by Peggy Hanna, “Pocahontas” will be staged April 18-20 and 25-27. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
