Struthers 16, Howland 1

STRUTHERS — A 10-run third inning did enough damage to eventually end the Metro Athletic Conference game after five innings. Ashley Baron, Sam Ditman and Dom Martino had home runs, while Halle Minchin-Skook had a triple and double for Struthers. Winter Wasilewski and Ellen Becker also doubled for the Wildcats (5-1).

Canfield 11, Salem 0

SALEM — Tricia Bettura tossed a no-hitter, striking out six for the Cardinals. Mandy Moliterno drove in four runs.

McDonald 4, Sebring 1

McDONALD — Kaitlin Rutushin tossed a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts and three walks for McDonald (3-0, 3-0) in an Inter Tri-County League game. Alyssa Hutzler doubled and scored twice in the win. Emily Dickens had two hits for Sebring (3-2).

Newton Falls 7, LaBrae 6

LaBRAE — A terrific relay from center field to second base to home in the bottom of the seventh inning helped Newton Falls hold off a rally by LaBrae in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game. After falling behind 6-0, the Vikings cut the deficit to one on a solo homer by Amanda Witherow in the seventh. But the game-tying runner was cut down at the plate. Jasmine Hawkins had two singles for the Tigers (2-1, 2-0). Witherow went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Eric Stratakis was 3-for-3 and Courtney Aldridge was 2-for-3 for LaBrae (1-3, 0-2).

Hubbard 13, Girard 0

GIRARD — Kara Egelsky pitched a one-hitter, striking out eight and walking one for Hubbard (2-0) in a TAC game. Gabby Flynn had four hits and five RBIs, Jessica Lunt had three hits and three RBIs, Page Feech had two hits and Michelle Stipetich had three hits. Missy Weitzman singled in the second inning for Girard (1-2).

Lakeview 4, Brookfield 0

BROOKFIELD —Mackenzie Palette struck out 14 and did not issue a walk during a two-hitter for Lakeview (2-0, 2-0 TAC). Brookfield’s junior pitcher, Corin Miller, had an 11-strikeout, three-hitter with one walk. Junior Stephanie VanMeter had two hits including a seventh-inning double for Brookfield (0-2, 0-2 TAC). VanMeter, however, was stranded at third. Brookfield gave up two unearned runs — one in the third and one in the fourth.

South Range 5, Crestview 4

NORTH LIMA — Freshman Madison Yanek went 3-for-4 with two home runs, including a walk-off homer with one out in the bottom of the eighth, to lead South Range past Crestview. Yanek had four RBIs, while Megan Beachley doubled and singled for the Raiders (1-2). Brianna Vlaiku was 4-for-4 and scored two runs and JoLee McCoy had two hits for Crestview.

Lowellville 6, Southern 5

LOWELLVILLE — Cori Pavlicko had two doubles and a single for four RBIs and she threw 10 strikeouts for the Rockets (3-1, 2-1 ITCL). Brooke Pallozzi had two singles and scored twice for the winners. Losing pitcher Marla Pitts, who struck out five batters, had two doubles and three RBIs for Southern, while teammate Nicole Beadnel also had two hits.

Springfield 10, Columbiana 2

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Junior Rebecca Evan had three hits and scored four times, while sophomore Ashley Davis had three hits including a triple and knocked in three runs for Springfield (1-3, 1-0 ITCL Tier One). Springfield’s first win came after losses to Struthers, Mooney and Boardman by scores of 7-2, 3-2 and 2-0. The loss was the first for Columbia (4-1, 1-1).

Western Reserve 1, Jackson-Milton 0

BERLIN CENTER — Senior Brittany Boyer singled in Chelsea Korda in the bottom of the fourth inning for Reserve (3-1, 3-0 ITCL Tier Two). Korda singled to get on base. Korda, a junior, also struck out seven in tossing a two-hitter. Chelsey Debolt and Lyndsey Knipp had the only hits — both singles —for Jackson-Milton.

Ursuline 5, St. Thomas Aquinas 1

LOUISVILLE — Sophomore Casey Lower had nine strikeouts and didn’t issue a walk during a three-hitter. Sophomore Kasey Foley, senior Nikka Bonamase and freshman Sara Marr had two singles apiece for Ursuline (4-0).

Youngstown Christian 12, Warren Harding 9

WARREN — Ashley Gonda had three hits and scored fours runs for the Eagles (1-3). Kristi Cooper and Kaitlyn Vestal each had two hits while Kati Hartman doubled.

Maplewood 12, Bloomfield 0

NORTH BLOOMFIELD — Maplewood scored early and often, building a 12-run lead after three innings of a five-inning game. In her first appearance of the year, Amanda Peska registered nine strikeouts and allowed no walks in pitching a three-hitter. Tarra Snyder knocked in three runs, while Cheyenne Thorton pushed across two more for the winners (3-2). Snyder, Thorton, Tori Spencer and Leah Dean each had two hits for Maplewood, while Jessica Lewis had a pair of hits for Bloomfield.

Southeast 11, Ravenna 1

RAVENNA — Shannon Hamilton (2-0) pitched a complete game for the win and also homered, doubled twice and drove in three runs for Southeast (2-0, 1-0 PTC). Danielle Kaley added two doubles, a single and three RBIs.

SATURDAY

Struthers 7-7, Champion 2-1

STRUTHERS — Halle Minchin-Skook had three singles and two RBIs, and winning pitcher Ashley Baron struck out 11 and allowed four hits for Struthers in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. Nichole Weaver homered and doubled for the Golden Flashes. In the nightcap, Struthers’ Ellen Becker allowed two hits and struck out five. Offensively, Nicolette Demyan had three hits, while Dom Martino, Dana Mathews and Becker had two apiece. Mathews also had three RBIs.
