YOUNGSTOWN — The Diocese of Youngstown announced the appointment of Brian Sinchak as principal of John F. Kennedy Junior and Senior High School in Warren. He will begin work for the 2008-09 school year this summer.
A 1997 alumnus of Boardman High School, he graduated magna cum laude in 2001 from John Carroll University, Cleveland, where he majored in religious studies. He received one of the university’s highest honors, The Campion Award, and was inducted into the Jesuit Honor Society, Alpha Sigma Nu. Sinchak also was a member of the academic affairs committee of the university’s board of trustees.
After graduation, he was administrative coordinator and research assistant to the director of the international Cardinal Suenens Center, based at John Carroll.
In 2003, he earned a master’s degree in educational administration at JCU and received the Hoffman Graduate Award. Sinchak also authored two major research papers on school leadership — “Implications of Effective Schools Research and School Improvement Strategies” and “A Qualitative Leadership Study of Ohio’s Effective Schools.”
Sinchak then taught theology at St. Peter Chanel High School in Cleveland, where he served as a campus minister, coach of the speech and debate team, director of the theater program and member of the school’s accreditation steering committee.
In 2006, he became vice principal of Benedictine High School, Cleveland, and was recognized with Ohio Magazine’s outstanding educator award.
He and his wife, the former Mandy Carbon, a 1997 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, have a year-old son and plan to relocate to the area this spring.
