Facts and figures
People can register by visiting www.donatelifeohio.org, or when they renew their driver’s license.
One donor can save the lives of up to eight people.
There is no age limit. Infants to the elderly can be donors.
Donors need not be in the best of health. A medical history is reviewed at the time of death to determine whether a donor is suitable.
The donation process is regulated by the United Network of Organ Sharing.
Prospective donors should share their plans with family members.
Both donors and recipients are guaranteed anonymity.
There is no cost to the family or estate.
Heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, pancreas, intestines, corneas, skin, tendons, ligaments, vessels, heart valves and even middle ear bones all can be donated.
