Open enrollment

These are the proposed guidelines for Austintown’s open enrollment policy:

The district can exclude a pupil who has been suspended or expelled for 10 or more days in the current school year or previous school year.

Open enrollment pupils who have been suspended or expelled for 10 or more days in the Austintown school district will not be allowed to enroll the following year.

To participate in sports, incoming seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders must have received passing grades in the immediately preceding grading period in 75 percent of subjects enrolled.

Incoming 10th- and 11th-graders cannot participate in athletics for one year from the date of enrollment to the district. Incoming seniors cannot participate in athletics.

Certain pupils would get “weighted priority” for acceptance, such as pupils whose parents attended Austintown schools or those whose parents work for the school system.

Open enrollment students would not be considered for graduation honors (such as valedictorian), or National Honor Society recognition unless they were enrolled at Fitch High School since the first semester of their freshman year.
