Chaney sweeps East in baseball; Warren JFK wins in softball
STRUTHERS — Francisco Morales pitched a complete-game four-hitter, leading Chaney High over East, 14-4, in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Cene Park.
Chaney won the second game, 15-5.
Morales struck out eight in his performance. Zack Domkowski hit a triple for the Cowboys and Kevin Boris had a double.
Tyruss Patterson and Luis Charriez hit doubles for the Panthers.
In the second game, Victor Cardarelli struck out seven for Chaney. He also had a double and single. Domkowski singled twice for the Cowboys, while Scott Reuda and Morales hit doubles.
Jose Guzman had two singles for East.
Poland 12, Champion 6
POLAND — Matt Pitzulo went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Bulldogs (1-1).
Trent Vallinger added a triple and double, and he drove in three runs for Poland, which scored eight runs in the second inning.
Kevin Koval and Mark Turnbull also doubled for the Bulldogs, and Sean Gabriel was the winning pitcher with three innings of relief.
Softball Warren JFK 6-5, Maplewood 4-3
MECCA — In the first game, despite Emily Paris’ towering three-run homer, JFK prevailed 6-4.
In the second game, a squeeze bunt tied the game in the sixth, but JFK scored twice in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Pico pitched a complete game in the first of the doubleheader for the win and came into a tie in the sixth to win the second game as well.
Maplewood fell to 2-2.
