Gib Shanley dies at 76
CLEVELAND — Gib Shanley, the radio voice of the Cleveland Browns from 1961 to 1984, died Sunday. He was 76.
Shanley died at a Cleveland hospital, said Steve Ripepi, president of A. Ripepi Sons Funeral Homes, which is handling funeral arrangements. A cause of death wasn’t immediately released.
Shanley was the play-by-play announcer during the Browns’ 27-0 victory over the Baltimore Colts in the 1964 NFL title game, the last time Cleveland celebrated a championship by one of its major sports teams.

Tigers lose again
DETROIT — Nick Swisher homered on the game’s second pitch, Carlos Quentin had four RBIs and the Chicago White Sox handed the Detroit Tigers their sixth straight loss, 13-2 Sunday night.
Despite the second-highest payroll in baseball, the Tigers, the only winless team in the majors, are off to their worst start since going 0-9 at the beginning 2003, when they lost an AL-record 119 games.
All six of Detroit’s losses have come at home, and the Tigers were booed loudly by the crowd of 35,230 as the game unraveled. One of the few cheers was a sarcastic ovation after Yorman Bazardo got the last out of Chicago’s four-run ninth.
Ducks win shootout over Coyotes
ANAHEIM, Calif. — Chris Kunitz and Bobby Ryan scored 43 seconds apart in the third period against former teammate Ilya Bryzgalov, and Ryan Getzlaf had the deciding goal in the shootout to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes Sunday night in the final game of the NHL’s regular-season schedule.
The Ducks, who also kicked off the league’s 91st season in London with a two-game set against the Los Angeles Kings, will begin the defense of their Stanley Cup championship at home against Dallas.
They were fourth in the Western Conference with 102 points and a 47-27-8 record.
