Whispering Pines District plans Scouts awards dinner


Some 66 scouts will be honored for their achievements during 2007.

AUSTINTOWN — The Whispering Pines District of the Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America, will hold its annual Recognition and Awards Dinner on April 24 at Marino’s Restaurant, 5423 Mahoning Ave.

Dinner begins at 7 p.m. with the program and awards to follow.

The dinner will honor the 31 Scouts who earned their Eagle Scout Award in 2007, the highest award a Boy Scout can earn, and 35 Scouts who earned the Arrow of Light Award, the highest a Cub Scout can earn. Select Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Venturing Crews and volunteers who have given exceptional service to the district and the community also will be recognized.

Guest speaker will be Gary Erlinger, council executive of the Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America.

The district will also recognize the fact that it has earned the 2007 Quality District Award from the Boy Scouts of America. There will also be a Wood Badge Bead Ceremony for two Scout leaders who have completed the Wood Badge Training Program, the advanced adult leader training program of the BSA.

The highlight of the evening will be the awarding of three District Award of Merits, the highest honor a district can bestow upon a volunteer. The award is available to scouters who have rendered service of an outstanding nature at the district level.

The Whispering Pines District is lead by District Chairman Bill Moss, District Executive Sarah Marino and District Commissioner Larry Harvey Sr.

The district serves all Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Crews in Mahoning County and Hubbard.
